Gmail and Outlook 2002

    Just a quick one - I hope!
I'm running office 2002 on xp sp2 and I'm going mad trying to configure my gmail account to deliver to outlook.
I used gmail's pop3 configuration tool then changed the smtp server to irishbroadband's one (as IBB specified in the set up documentation). Things worked fine for a couple of days but now outlook refuses to collect the mail saying that the server is either down, timed out or doesn't exsist!

I now have an additional problem of phanton messages being sent. When outlook sends and receives to gmail there are sometimes up to 8 sending actions showing in the send / receive window. This happens when there is nothing in the outbox. I've swept for viruses and spyware using Norton, Antivir and Spybot and they all come back clear.

Has anyone any ideas on what's going on here? Is the server problem with IBB (wouldn't be particularly surprised if that was the case)? Gmail and IBB don't seem to want to play nicely half the time anyway. I just want to be able to use outlook! Would eircom.net addresses work better?

    Help!! Please?:o

Not sure myself on how to fix it but Microsoft give explicit instructions on how to configure Outlook to use Gmail and a quick glace over seems to highlight they might have it setup differently then you so it might be worth a go at least to see if it works.

If you click the "add your Gmail email account" it will reveal the step by step instructions.
