I need an 845PE motherboard 2.5, 2.6 2.8 533Mhz with the P4 for a Dell 4550, or someone to install a new chip in the 845PE that I have. I bent the pins while trying to replace the chip.

Not sure if you want a motherboard or a CPU you should only need a motherboard if you damaged the CPU socket and the pins from the CPU are not stuck in it which would be a bout of bad luck.

Anyway Elara stock various socket 478 Celeron D CPU's which should work in your 845PE [Komplett dont seem to stock S478 CPU's anymore], sourcing S478 P4's I'm not sure about as I haven’t seen for them for sale in a while though eBay is probably the best place to get one.

As for 845PE motherboard Elara have one listed [try eBay for more], though not in stock but as long as you are sticking to Intel core logic changing motherboards and CPU's wouldn’t be that big of a job. Get a socket 478 Celeron D along with an 865PE mobo available at Elara install it and do not boot into Windows yet, [note this requires a XP installation CD] boot from the XP install CD and choose the option to repair an existing XP install choose all sub options and then let it do its thing this will make XP rebuild its in simple terms database of drivers for the OS and when its finished the computer should load as normal though you might have to reinstall one or two apps it varies along with drivers for sound and display if it didnt pull them from the previous install.

The Dell case will only fit Dell motherboards. If its socket 478, then it sounds like you bent the chips pins, and can either try straightening them (carefully), or getting a new chip. Check the Dell site for bios updates, which should also mention what support has been added to it chip wise.

Or the third way. When a pin is broken, try replacing it with the clipped off top of a small / medium size needle. Stick the needle in the socket and place the cpu on top. Worked for me with an AMD64 :D

Thanks for the replies and info – I think I’ll refrain from sticking needles in for the time being (I thought of something bigger, more like a hammer). I spent about three hours trying to straighten pins in two places on the chip and when I replaced it there wasn’t a bleep. I took it out and broke three pins while trying to straighten them again. As things stand I’m afraid to touch the damn thing and would prefer to let someone who has the expertise, to look at it and put in a new chip. If anybody can recommend someone (preferably on the north side of Dublin) I’d appreciate it.
