Got new front brake pads put on my car yesterday and was wondering how long do they take to bed in.

The car wasn't stopping as far as it normally would.

It was like there was a coating on them which needs to wear away

Can take ages, but will gradually get better to the point where you won't notice over about a week

Can be up to 100 miles traditionally but this depends on the pads, discs and the type of braking done.
I recall that ATE Power Discs required about 5 or 6 presses of the brakes when moving for the pads and discs to marry properly.
