I'm getting a popup that's saying the pc is infected with possible harmful material etc & something about spyware & to click in the popup, when I do it keeps bringing me into a website for SPYFACLON. Whatever it is seems to have wiped out my mcafee anti-virus as well cause when I was trying to download AVG lastnight I got another popup about an iworm_attk!!! Any ideas?

try MS-Antispyware or spybot best 2 IMO, many people will argue this, before it starts I have no intention of debating the best one with anyone, they all have good and bad point.

If you have spybot installed and updated to the latest version tell it to do a boot scan this will make it scan the system before windows gets to the desktop and see if it catches anything be sure to turn off system restore as well as some spyware likes to hide in that cache.

If you still having problems after that download Hijack this and post the log from it if you want us to take a look at what’s loading at start-up and your not sure what to remove [hijack this will scan all the locations that a program can hide itself in to load at start-up but some of the stuff it lists is normal so there is an element of risk if you remove something you shouldn’t have]

Failing that go get Windows Defender [formally Micosoft Anti-Spyware] from Microsoft install it and run a full system scan.

Doing a bit of searching on the net & you'll never guess what!! SPYFACLON is the adware!!! It's what's causing the problem!

Actually that’s quite common now their are quite a few programs claiming to be removal tools but are in fact spyware themselves to try and trick you into installing it. If you have uninstalled the program do run a full system scan anyway these programs do not "play nice" and uninstall themselves fully most of the time and will have left something behind or comprised the system to allow more spyware to get in.

Double check the IE security settings and make sure everything is set to default and set your privacy to medium-high and if you don’t have it install SP2 for WinXP.

Thats the whole scam with spyware. It messes up your pc and makes you buy their adware remover and they make money on it. Bastards.

Another good program that catches stuff that spybot misses is Ad-Aware by lavasoft.com - free for home use :)

If at any time while your surfin' the net, if a Windows looking message pops up tellin' you that you've got spyware....click here to get rid of it, don't click!!! 9 outta 10 times it'll be a con.

The advice already given is good. I use Adaware SE and have done for quite a while. I used to suffer quite badly at the hands of Spy and adware cos I was using an un-patched Windows XP SP1. That's the most important thing. Make sure you've got Windows XP SP2 and make sure you've downloaded all the latest security patches. Also, I use MS Defender. A squared. Registry Mechanic and AVG Free Edition.

I haven't suffered from spyware for nearly a year.

You wont get rid of this by using programs such as adaware, ad remove programs etc because it keeps reinstalling itself and its not spyware its a program installed on your system trying to fool you into thinking you have spyware and that this hero program called spyfalcon can remove it for you, it will even show you spyware that it found buts its just a scam, if you scan for spyware you probably wont find any. I dont think it actually dose any harm but heck is it annoying. Heres the instructions to remove, just print out and follow step by step, you need to go into safe mode etc
