Stay in an obscure part of the map, giving orders, not getting involved in the battle or get stuck in, stopping and hiding every minute or so, to give command, UAV or lay an artillery barrage?

Yeah i played single player last night to practice commander and I didn't know what to do here, hide or actively pursue enemy forces, i would leave one squad to defend a flag and send the other 2 to capture the next, i got so sick of the computer players just failin to do what i told em that i just sniped instead

Depends : not full 32 player maps.......... well every body counts , but make sure you have time to do it . Full 32 player maps , see if you can get to a captured flag and hold it yourself while doing the commander job . 64 player , good few players in , grab a tow or AA to guard your main base , and command away .

Most important thing is , if whatever you are doing is interfering with you being a commander , stop . Don't fly , under any circumstances , chopper gunner , can be done , on a quietish server .

Squad leaders should never fly either as their squad members can't spawn on them.

quite enjoy playing comander, though only started doing it a bit recently but a lot of the time i dont get it cause of lowly rank. I find the engineer is is the best to because a lot of the time you cant rely on your team to repair your assetts. Most annoying thing i find being a commander is if the enemy takes a capable flag with all your assets and merrily blow them up, you order your squads to retake it, they dont bother and then start mutiny votes cause the artillery\uav\supplies they want arent delivered. idiots.

As already stated, protecting your assets is the key. Most players play as engineer so they can repair what they need to. If you have a Spec-Op in your backyard then give yourself a UAV, sneak up on him and then go repairing.

Some though prefer to play as sniper, that way you can drop a claymore at every asset and protect them in that way.

When the round is over and if you are still commander, then your points you get are based on how well your team played. Your own kills don't count when you're commander.

Personally I don't like commanders who take a tank to command in as it's 1 less tank for your team and it can often make a big difference.

Blackhawk ftw, tbh. Nothing better than hovering high above a flag so that your team can jump out to get it.

Isn't that what Commanders do hide in Bunkers & Co-Ordinate the Battle

I love guarding the main base as the commander. Like as MEC on Karkeh. Blow the bridge, booby trap the ramp and woo hoo, impregnable base.

I remember one time there were three guys from the same clan trying to take it. I must have C4d them (all three, in a jeep) five or six times. Poor buggers.

Sounds just like a public server.

Whenever I get command I find a nice safe spot and set up camp for awhile. Being an engineer is handy although you can always drop a supply crate beside the asset you need to repair. It's a two edged sword though, if the guy who blew it up is still near they'll nearly thank you for it if they aren't busy setting more c4.

If the squads are doing what I ask, i'll defend the main base/repair. If their a bunch of idiots... It's time to get involved.

Its balls when your own engineers then repair the bridge, and the enemy comes in. Example: you blow the bridge next to the north base in Wake (and your Jap), and your engineers repair it, so that they can drive a jeep over, and then BAM, the enemy tank comes over, kills you, and takes the base:mad: Esp annoying when you ask them NOT to repair it, multiple times!
