    trying to hook my powerbook up to my router. asks me for password for eircom.

    using airport. asks me for WEP password for eircom.
    i'm a noob...
    as you can tell.

    Not a chance. If it is your network / you're authorised- you can access the router settings and sort it from there.

    The "default" i.e the one you recieved wth yer package with no changes is,

    username: eircom
    Password: broadaband1

    Could be the otherway round with the one on the eircom instead
