    Hi,

Just wondering if there are disadvantages to studying the software section of A+ certification before the hardware section. Is it a prerequisite to study the hardware section because many things i learned there will be referred to in the software section or are they not related much.

Also should i also then be able to troubleshoot most software issues without the hardware knowledge (assuming i studied hard;) )im using mike meyers book for studying if that makes any difference and i like to start troubleshooting software issues while studying the hardware section to build up my on the job knowledge so to speak, because id imagine that the software end of things will be more prevelant when fixing home users computers.

Just in case anyone's not familiar with the a+ cert its basically a pc repair course, the hardware section comes first in the study book:confused:

i dont think you can do it that way to be honest. i might be wrong. i agree with your thinking the softwre material is more relevant to everyday troubleshooting but the hardware is imporant aswell. for instance, the hardware part covers installation of equipment and configration of drivers which some might argue is more software related.

you should look into it with comptia as i dont think you can sit the software first, as i say, i might be wrong, i had a friend who registered to sit the a+, failed the hardware then sat and passed the software.

mike meyers pretty good. i had some a+ material (software simulation exams etc) for sale in the fs section awhile back. if your interested pm me

Im planning on doing both tests together, just want to study the software first and then the hardware but i dont want to be half way through it when i realise that he is referring to things i should have already covered in the hardware:confused:

I did my A+ exam in FAS and we all sat the A+ software exam first followed a month later by the Hardware exam. As far as i know you can do it in whatever order you like....

    Bet of Luck with it!!!

I did Hardware first, mainly because it's easier. I would recommend doing it that way because the software part does make references to hardware material, but to be poerfectly honest you can do it any way you like, and the Meyers books is widely regarded as the best A+ book out there.

Just don't forget to cover everything. Some thing don't look that relevant but they have a funny way of cropping up.
