Driver problem

Ok, got a tv card from my da, couldnt find cd with driver, downloaded other driver and installed. This led to the device is not able to start.
Now I've found the cd with the proper driver on it but no matter what i do it keeps picking up the wrong driver. The wrong driver is newer so I cant update the driver. I delted registry entries, the driver in system32\drivers folder but still it keeps looking for it.

Any advice on how to stop this.
As soon as I click add new hardware windows looks for multimedia controller then picks up on the wrong driver and thats it, cant install the tv card with it picking up the wrong driver.

Running on XP, any help would be great.

Dont let windows install the driver automatically,
Choose the driver yourself using the driver wizard.
    Have disk option thingy.

    Step 1
Remove the driver files manually listed in the driver details tab in DM

Sounds like you've been trying this.

    Step 2
Create a new empty folder and move the contents of C:\windows\Inf into into it. Be careful you don't delete the files as you'll put them back later. Leave the INF folder empty.

    Step 3
With all references to the device removed from the Device manager reboot the computer and install the device when prompted from the cd.

Once it's working, replace the files back into the INF folder.
