Didn't have time to post about the seminar yesterday, but another excellant weekend of Sayoc Kali training with Tuhon Tom and Guro Chuck Giangreco. Short descripsion of what we worked on over the weekend was:

Friday night (6-8pm), was Stickgrappling which although painful was very enjoyable, and got some great detail on some of the material we had already covered, as well as going over some new stuff.

Saturday (2-7pm) began with Panantukan (Filipino Boxing with even more pain than Stickgrappling and I've got the bruises to prove it:D ) working entries with a short blade (Ahhh trainer obviously), practising the first two levels and level 3 was demoed. Level 1 is using the basic mechanics against a scarecrowing partner, while level two is passing your partners guard to entry. When you move to Level 3 your opponent is feeding you punches while you try to make your entry. Although this is what we practised there are another two levels, the first been projectiles to entry and the last been taking the guy to the ground to finish off. The second half (thankfully!) was receiver grips from Transitional Drill 1.

Sunday (10-4pm) The seminar was divided into two with those who were familiar with Transitional Drill 1 help teach it to those who didn't know it. After the break the postions were reversed and the Feeders became Receivers and vice versa. During some questions Tuhon Tom showed some basic projectile training and reviewed the oft quoted statement that "a blade/knife guy NEVER throws his knife", and then back to working the Drill. During the (non!!) break the seniors were shown stop locks from TD1 with Tuhon Tom and Guro Chuck only getting a 15minute break during 6 hours of training/instruction. All in all an excellant weekend and I can't wait to get to Tuhon Tom's next seminar in Warwick in England end of next month.

Having only a limited experience of stickfighting, I'm finding it hard to visualise stickgrappling. Any links or vids out there?

Have to say what exposure I've had to stickfighting was tremendous fun!
