what do u think of the .25? have u tuned it? roto start?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,324 ✭✭✭tallus

pull starter, and no I'm not giving the .21 away and yes I have tuned the .25 .
    excellent engine
I dont ever want to use roto start again, i had it with my RS4 evo and changed to pull start.

ditto, got sick of it too. well i found a cheap temp guage from the states so should be tuned to precision by easter or defo summer. how did u do urs? jsut by listening? iv never tuned b4 so i dont wana wreck my engine, prefer $30 than new engine!!lol

Firstly I watched the dvd that came witht the truck as many times as I could, the engine tuning bit is way handy on that dvd.
I went partially by listening yes, when you go too lean she will cut out anyways. so I waited until the engine was well heated up before I changed anything, I found that until it reaches proper operating temp it doesn't run in the same way.
that's when I fine tuned it. Coolwings site has an excellent engine tuning tutorial on it too.
It's definetly tuned right for top end speed, I have it running slightly rich on the bottom end just a bit paranoid for some reason, the front wheels still almost lift off the ground when i slam the throttle open, even a slight bump will get her up on to the back wheels. :-)
I also bought some new tyres and wheels from Modelsport as they are bigger and harder than the stock hpi savage ones and are more suited to road use. Harder ones might help with the wheelies ... *fingers crossed*

cheers m8, wil try again this w/end, and then see, i saw 8.5" wheel sfor the savage yesterday!! is that what you're gettin??

the ones I got are Carson Mad Run Wheel & Tyre Set (Chrome) 7inch, I think 8 would look mad totally ! the seven inch ones are more than big enough.

You should have more faith/confidence in yourself.
You know, your fingertips, and ears are waaay more sensitive than any but the most high spec equipment.
Best to use the thermometer as a learning tool and plan to not need it in abt 6 months. Then it won't become a crutch u need and cannot do without. ;)

good point, so get it, but only so i dont wreck the engine and let it help me to hear the proper noises etc?

    Yep.
After you get to know what it sounds like when it's right - you don't need the gizmo any more. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,324 ✭✭✭tallus

what's wrong with teh ones that came with it ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 476 ✭✭no leaf clover

its just ive been reading alot about all the things people often upgrade and these come up a bit, also it would help wheelies without big and little gears as the acceleration would be alot more responsive

Hmm the plot thickens .... is there a definitive answer?

well... the ones u have will do but u could get some nice fancy ones with steel gears and figh tourqe on them so that might help and theres not such a chance that you will strip the gears in side it ;) are u gonna give it lots of abuse now?:D if so id say the engine will do maybe theres one or 2 things that could be done with it (i dont know what ) and it will be grea because savages are very good bashers out of the box so.. i dont see the need for a new engine

The best upgrade you could make is the Sell the Savage and buy the New Revo 3.3 :D
