2x SCSI 15K RPM RAID0

Just reading the other thread where the guy was thinking of spending €1250 on raptor drives and think its madness. I will be upgrading my system soon and was wondering about SCSI dirves. I was thinking of 2x 18.4GB SCSI Maxtor Atlas 15,000 RPM, 320 Mb/s drives running in Raid0 for my OS and 1-2 of my fav games and then a normal 300 GB SATA for my applications that dont need the extra speed. I can get the 2 SCSI drives from the USA for ~ €110.
This seems a very resonable price for 2x 15K RPM SCSI's and I was wondering if this is so and would I notice much of a difference with them and how would they compare to 2x Raptors.

They're gonna be ridiculously loud, run really hot and still not gonna be much faster. SCSI drives are more designed for random server access patterns than anything as far as I know. The idea of using them in a desktop machine regularly gets slammed as just wanting a big e-peen on storagereview and hardforum storage section.

it depends on the model of drives. Gut feeling is that if they are 18Gb, they are older tech and not as quick as the latest raptors. RAID aside.

checkout www.storagereview.com for a comparison drives.

should be interesting to see how NCQ works with parallel recording

TBH it all depends on what you are using the drives with.

Im guessing you wont have onboard scsi, which meens you will be using a scsi card.

If it is pci it will be slow and if it is pci-e it will cost you a bomb for a raid card.

if you had onboard scsi it would be sweet to have a raid0 with 2 scsi drives though

where u getting such a good deal on the drives?

also as was already said they will be very noisey and hot :)

Not a bad deal, but they are pretty old (its not listed on storagereview.com), I would say a modern Raptor would beat them in max throughput. However latency would be better with the 15k's

Im sure you already know that they are 80Pin SCA drives and you will need an adaptor\rack.

when i get some cash i would love to get this
