Rabbit Dating

We had a lovely male dwarf rabbit (Spike) for 3 years to the day until Christmas eve just gone, and still have a female lop-earred (Fiver) for the past 2 years. They had a couple of litters of healthy kittens before Spike passed. Now Fivers only sexual interaction is with an inanimate stuffed teddy :(

Were hoping to continue to breed some litters and give her some social interaction by means of occasional "rabbit dating". ;)

Any involved parties would of course have their "pick of the litter". :p

Why don't you spay the rabbit and get a neutered male friend for her instead of breeding, if she's had a couple of litters that's about enough for any pet bunny. Hadook on this board has lots of bunnies looking for a home.

We never had any problem selling or giving the babies away.
We think she has another couple of litters in her before she retires to a life of 'mere existance'.

So you're saying that your rabbit if neutered will be living a life of 'mere existence'? That's a pretty weird attitude.

How about you do the responsible thing and neuter your rabbit as suggested, and point all those people to whom you would have given baby bunnies in the direction of one of the overworked animal shelters such as that run by Hadook?

There are enough ignorant pet owners out there allowing their animals reproduce indiscriminately without you contributing to the chronic oversupply of pups, kittens, rabbits etc. through silly notions of neutering leading to a life of 'mere existence'.

Id advise anyone reading this NOT to encourage this person to breed more rabbits, agree with Gekko. I wonder do you vaccinate the rabbits??? You do realise they need mixi and VHD 2 weeks apart plus worming and spaying neutering so the offspring dont interbreed. Any responsible owner has to pay at least 100 euro per rabbit to have the proper veterinary treatment to be a responsible owner. Do you even homecheck the homes you sell the babies to? How do you know they are going somewhere responsible, rabbits are timid animals and need careful rehoming.
Another totally irresponsible rabbit owner is not what is needed in this country quit causing problems for other people to clean up!
