Spent so long trying to decide which to submit that I forgot all about the deadline... ah well. Well done to all on some great shots.

Shrimp, that is a fantastic capture. I love the contrast of the empty space. Something very haunting about this shot. Well done.

Great photos, Edunon got my vote... Looks great.. something I'd expect to see in "Hotshots" of DC Mag.

brianjg's is also good - only downside imo is the background, but all in all great photo.

@ shrimp, what post processing did you do? Very nice shot.

ok, well bassically, this was a matter of finding a dark enough area with one scource of light. A soft diffuse effect was added to enhance the angelic look in his eyes. Of course then conversion to B&W + Contrast.

looks like theres a fair bit of dodging and burning in there as well?....like along the bridge of the nose, upper lip and top of eye brow? I may be wrong tho, the lighting just seems bit odd to be completely natural.

    dodging and burning = contrast...

    not in my book.

Do you even know what the word contrast means?

funny, I'm thinking the same thing about you....

contrast adjustments are used to increase/decrease the TONAL DIFFERENCE between light and dark areas of a photo.

dodging and burning is for adjusting EXPOSURE on specific areas of a photo.

I can understand why your confused thinking they are the same thing, the results can be similar, but they're different processes all together.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,645 ✭✭✭Shrimp

The end results are the same.. by darkening the black, and lightening the white I am creating contrast.. your argument is fruitless anyway..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,435 ✭✭✭eas

who's arguing? All I did was explain the differences between adjusting contrast and dodging and burning.

If I told you aperture and shutter speeds where the same thing because they both effect the amount of time light hits the film or sensor surely you'd correct me?

The skin looks very strange in the photo. any chance at a look at the original?

thats a terrible comparison.. aperture controls DOF too..

Yeah I second that. It looks very manipulated, I'd love to see the original for comparison.
