    Car Parking

4 or more Park Free Compliments of OXEGEN, the environmentally friendly festival, fans will receive a free car parking ticket when they purchase 4 or more weekend camping tickets together. Lets travel with our friends and enjoy a weekend without traffic jams! Otherwise a car parking ticket will be available from Ticketmaster outlets for 20 euro when you buy your Festival tickets. from oxegen.ie

sneaky f*cking ba$tards. i'm having none of this. and environmentally friendly festival ?? did you see the state of that place last year??

the more i let this sink in the more outraged i get. its e160 for a ticket and an ADDITIONAL e20 to park your car. totalling e180 before you have to deal with the scummy nordie security guards. (who, by the way, were trying to hit people up for cans for their own party later that night)

    for shame oxegen, for shame.

    That's bull****. €185 for a moderate festival?

If they gave a **** about the environment any car that rolled up to the car park with four people in it would park for free. How many people go in groups to buy their tickets? You then negate the ability to camp in the car park (for a quieter and altogether more enjoyable time) by having paid their camping fee.

I'm going to try and pick up a Sunday ticket cheap but that's as far as i'm going with Oxegen.

I hope EP has a good line up this year because i'm raging to catch a festival this summer, missed them all last year while in Canada.

What a shower of money grabbing B***ards. Enviornmentally friendly my a$$. I'm contemplating not going now even though i'll probably get the bus, there just taking the pi$$ not and seeing how far they can push their luck.

Meh its not too bad, show 4 tickets and get a free pass

    CAR PARKING INFO.

Car parking tickets cost €20 but it's free if you purchase it at the same time as 4 OXEGEN tickets on the Ticketmaster website. You can also get a free parking ticket if you bring any 4 tickets purchased separately to a Ticketmaster outlet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

Well I can see a few reasons why it was done. Things were getting out of hand with people camping in the carpark. Admittedly just insisting on a camping ticket to get to the carpark would probably have been a cheaper alternative though. :-p I guess it will reduce traffic a bit too so that cant be too bad but still... talk about hidden costs.. looks like you could easily wind up 190 quid out of pocket in total when you stick the price of the program on top of that.

If they want to be enviromentally friendly, perhaps providing free buses to and from the festival site from Dublin/Naas would cut down on the number of cars.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,601 ✭✭✭Kali

How much was a return ticket on the bus last year?
How much was parking last year or was it free?

Most festivals charge for parking... its inconceivable that you can just find somewhere to park 50,000 cars for free... never mind security and cleanup costs.

If you have no friends and were travelling to it on your own, yes it sucks, but otherwise deal with it and organise a car pool.

Ha ha, MCD aren't exactly endearing themselves to us, are they?
Kali - parking has been free all the previous years. I think a return ticket on the bus costs about 10 euro.

    MCD? Ripping people off? Never!

Expect anything different? Simple solution: screw 'em, don't go. Electric Picnic's only about a thousand times better anyway.

  • return bus was €20 last year anyway...

    someone asked..

Whats with the price hike in tickets also.It was €145 last year and there were far better headliners and this year its €160.Its a bloody disgrace.

Unless some great bands are announced (the crap half of The Who and several mediocre bands is not what I call a festival) I'm skipping Oxegen this year. Electric Picnic will get my money and possibly All Tomorrow's Parties.

I was just looking at the ticketmaster link for the oxegen presale (Not going mind you, was trying to find any details for GNR presale :D ), You have to read this link to believe it.

    http://www.ticketmaster.ie/event/18003AECE2ECE6D8?artistid=940673&majorcatid=10001&minorcatid=1
Dublin Bus is operating a shuttle service from Parnell Square West, Dublin 1.
Buses departing every 20 minutes each day.
A Return Bus Transfer is €20. However as a special early booking discount price a return bus ticket will cost only €18 on bookings made before 31 April 2006.

Special Early Discount 18 euro - Who are they f**king kidding!!!!

So its now 20 EURO to punchestown and back, up from 10 euro last year (And I thought that was a big rip off). So thats 40 euro if you are travelling from the city centre both days!. That together with the extortionate ticket prices and a mediocre lineup.

What next, 7-8 euro for a beer, 2 euro to use the toilets.

That should be the last straw for a lot of people. I suggest people should vote with their feet and not put up with this blatant rip off - The greedy wa*kers have gone too far!!! I hope they only sell half the tickets this year.

How many years of rip offs and mediocre garbage will it take before people stop going to that piece of crap?

If you wanna drink beer til you pass out and sleep in a tent, you can do it out in the country with out being ripped off.

I went to Download in England last year, tickets were expensive, but compared to oxegen it was a paradise. The toilets were cleaned twice a day!!! Most Important! Oxegen for toilets is sick.........There were warm public showers (if you're awake at 5am, i found that was the best time to go, Hangover Cured!) The campsite was regularly cleaned, with tents well spaced apart, I didn't feel like I was sleeping on a landfill. The security were cool/well trained, they didn't need spotlights/guardtowers similar to a concentration camp, never bothered anyone! Same with police - turned a blind eye - hehe. Entertainment went on until 4/5 am in a big niteclub type section with - i **** you not - hottubs. It was 3 days long and the food was really decent. But, unfortunately MCD control music/artists in Ireland - so whos going to tell them better!!

Oxegen is for the kids on their tran year piss up, let them have it is what i say, Roll on Ep, it may be a little bit dearer but it's going to be fantastic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

Seriously I made these same complaints about oxegen 4 years ago! Things havent been quite as bad as 2002 as Fairyhouse was a pit of a venue compared to Punchestown and I did crawl back to Oxegen the last 2 years because the lineups were good enough but the basic complaints about facilities and overcharging haven't changed in 4 years and now the Lineup isn't doing anything for me I'm gonna sit this one out I think.

Ive pretty much given up trying to convince people. Ive found you can bitch and moan all you like, theres plenty of alternatives.. almost too much and thats without even starting to look outside the country. I wish I had Ryanair back in the day. It cost me 100punts to fly to Stansted for Reading back in 98 and thats when Id just finished school... you kids have no excuses with your antique monkeys and Kaiser Chefs (waves walking stick) its like 40 euro to fly over return!

Hehe you'd want to get your finger out if you're looking to go to ATP... weekend two is completly sold out and weekend one chalets are completly gone apart from 6-berths (and I doubt theres too many left).

One year they were charging €10 into carpark.
Does anyone know do you have to have a ticket to park or will they let u pay at the gate?

I was pretty unfortunate... the day I decided to buy the tickets (8th Feb.) weekend two just sold out right under my nose.

And I completely unaware of the news section, which had been updating on the availability of tickets for weeks beforehand.

Simple solution to a simple problem...
    Dont go!

Oxegen has gone to sh*t in the past few years, the atmospher has gone downhill big time because you get all the scumbags goin there now

Save your money and go to a decent festival like EP or (like myself) over to Denmark for Roskilde

So if all you have to do to get a free parking pass is show up at Ticketmaster with 4 tickets... what's to stop people getting dozens and passing them out amongst their friends? That's presuming TM won't stamp the tickets or anything... but you never know!

After reading this thread I might not bother with Oxegen in the end. The tickets are pricier than last year (please correct me if I'm wrong); the car park fee is a fiasco, and the hygiene situation is truly awful. I might just pass it and head for the EP instead.... An older crowd go to EP, am I right? I went to the last Witness and felt like a Mammy even though I was only around 24/25.

Oxegen seems like a heluva lot of effort just to see the f-n' Who!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,124 ✭✭✭Jonny Arson

I'd love to go to Electric Picnic but sadly all my mates are completely mainstream obsessed and seriously think Oxegen is f**king heaven so it either I go to EP on my own (no way!) or sit EP out. Bah.

TBH I already stupidly bought my ticket for Oxegen just after last years so I'm likely to go but unless MCD sort out the disgraceful facilities and rip-off prices ( you know what the odds are for that!) I can safely say I won't go back in 2007. It's a pity because Oxegen was great craic last year and it could be such a better festival if MCD actually gave a toss about it and not how much profit they make from it.

the price is going up way too fast for oxegen and its not like theyre doing up the festival at all. they should take a page out of electric picnics book, anyone at that last year will know what a proper festival set up is.
the parking fee is an absolute f*cking disgrace especially after hiking the price up €20.
im going to rob at least 50 quids worth of oxegen stuff at the festival to make up for it and i think everyone should do the same cos theyre f*cking robbing us.

i would boycott it only i live just down the road from punchestown and id be able to hear it outside my house and that would wreck my head.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,963 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

Its another case of Rip off Ireland.
The Ryder Cup is a similar event.
They are charging a Car parking fee of €20 per day on top of the €100-120 per day entrance fee.
    I wont fund such greed.

Oxegen is a **** rip off festival, MCD are **** and a rip off and ticketmaster are both!

Sorry, I mean the Nightmare Before Christmas event. Unless that's what you're talking about, then I'm upset.

Yes, John Enwhistle and Keith Moon are what make The Who interesting for me. If Entwhistle was still alive I'd definitely go but Pete "I'm not a pervert, honest!" Townshend does nothing for me.

All this crack makes me glad im going to bennicasim! For the price of parking at oxegen you can probabally get a flight to spain,I think is for 160 euro for about a weeks entertainment, and the place wont be full of skangers.Oh and then theres the sun...............:D
