Could someone please tell me to what extent the Revolution will be backwards compatible with both the Gamecube and its older cartridge based consoles. Im not exactly sure to what extent this will benifit us as gamers.

The Revolution will play Gamecube games as normal, stick the disc in and hey presto. But for N64, SNES and NES games you'll have to download them to flash memory or otherwise to play in an emulated fashion.

And such will not be free as first hinted at by the big N.

They never hinted that they would be free. It was just a rumour. It got me very excited for a while though. Still what do you expect from a company that charges top dollar for ports of dodgy NES games on the GBA when others at least charge budget prices and give a decent selection of games.

I like the way Xbox Live offers you classic titles like Smash TV and Gauntlet for about €4 each. A system like this for the Revolution would be nice.

I hope it will be reasonably priced; I imagine they'll do game tie-in offers too, so Mario Revolution will come with a free download code for Super Mario Bros 3 etc.

I also hope they announce DS capabilities too; the HDD would work a treat for this, if you could use the wifi connection to download games to your DS... makes sense given that all downloadable games will match or fall well below the maximum specs of the DS.

Or on the other hand, if you've bought SMB3 and it's on the rev's flash memory, then it unlocks special features on Mario For Revolution :)

Or if you've downloaded SMB3, and you have a GBA with SMB3 connected to one of the controller ports, AND you have a DS with mario kart within wireless range, then you'll unlock mario donkey porn racing on Mario For Revolution ;)

Yes, I think that was it. I shouldn’t have got that wrong, wasn’t it something like the rumour started after the pre-E3 press conference, but the press conference never touched on whether they be free or not? (I should know or at least be clearer it, I was there)

Don't worry. I just got very excited about it and the prospect of english versions of the Fire Emblem games. Remember it well because of how disappointed I was when it was found to be false.

There will be downloadable Ds demos for definite.

I know the kiosks are being put up around the place; but do you think theyll be downloadable from the service directly; is that even possible without a firmware update?
I know good auld Reggie said that it was a possibility to have the Virtual Console on the DS; but they'd need to work on a blank cart type thing... I suppose a play-yan type device would do, or even the HDD.
