Nvidia actually released an AGP version of the 7800, the GS. We reviewed it a short while back.

If your on a tight budget an AGP X1600 would also do but with the following cavets no AA or AF in games and generally you would need to stay at around the 1024x768 resolution with high details enabled in games. Or the 6600GT is another middle range part and is pretty much in the same ball park as the X1600 part.

Yeah, the 7800GS seems to be the AGP king, in particular the EVGA Superclocked edition (490Mhz core 675mhz mem vs 375mhz core 600mhz mem of the standard versions).

I'm hoping to pick one up soon myself. (btw, anyone know anywhere selling these ? the usuall suspects don't seem to have them and I don't really want to get one from the US)

Yeah after reading through the review on toms hardware and some other stuff on the net it seems the one to get.

    what processor do you have?

If its an athlon or low end P4 it will probably not be enough for the 7800GS

What are the specs of your pc? A 7800 may just cause a major bottle neck, CSS is very CPU depenndent and BF2 recommends at least 1-2gigs of ram.

    Cpu is xp 2500+.

have a gig of ram at the moment.

Ye, i reckon you should be grand then, the cpu a little on the slow side but i think you will still see a massive improvement :).

Yeah CPU is a bit old these days but black and white 2 is pretty cack on the card at the mo.

Endurance, what kinda rig you got. Thanks for the help.:D

Sorry thought you were looking for regular ones EVGA arent too common in Europe they are usually only found on the US market although I recall seeing them listed somwhere a Uk etailer I'll have a check.

You can see more benchmarks here and the difference isnt that great vs the overclocked out of the box BFG parts. Also that XFX part at the bottom of the OcUK page is clocked at 440Mhz core & 650Mhz RAM which will be pretty close to the superclocked EVGA part.

Yeah i will probably get that one off overclockers.
I know there is not a huge difference but if i could find and the price of two cards were around the same i would go for the EVGA one. But as you said its pretty difficult to get it over here.

It was this site I was thinking of but they only sell PCI-E EVGA cards not AGP, Scan do sell an EVGA AGP 7800 GS but its not in stock and I hear Scan have pretty lousy customer support plus its not the super clocked version.

I think that given how AGP is going out the window you'd be lucky to find much beyond the UK or US. Perhaps Germany might be a good place to look further afield, as it may work out cheaper than buying from the UK in sterling, plus they might have more variety.
