    Hi all,

Let me begin by saying that I am and American and I am a fish. I am taking my first trip to Ireland next week and am trying to figure out how (if I'll have time) and where to get a game. The only live place I can find online is the Fitzwilliam, which is fine, but I am wondering what my other options are. I'll be in Dublin for a few days and then heading over to Galway for the rest of the time. Any info about either area would be great.
    Thanks a lot,
    -New fish

there are a few places in Dublin. The Fitz, which you know of. The Sporting Emporium on South Annes Street, just off Grafton Street is a fairly new place and is very comfortable. You can get a beer downstairs in it also if your lucky and can watch a bit of TV while playing if there is a good match on. Then there is The Merrion, which i surprise myself to say i have not been to yet. I see also that Amusement City accross from Trinity College has a casino now also but i have no idea what its like. Sorry, i dont know any places around Galway tho.

The 78( or is it 78th?)club on georges street have also recently opened a card room. Never been there so I cant comment but from the outside it looks pretty small.

Galway has a casino called The 4 Aces. It's on Domonic street. They have some good tournaments and a very loose aggressive 1/2 PLHE cash game with a live straddle.

If it is the same as the last time i was there, it is very small. There was no poker, only roulette and BJ but a nice place all the same. Dealers are sound and will chat away to you as you play. I see (as i said) Amusement City, Beside the Bank Of Ireland on D'Olier St have opened a poker room. that place always scared me! Seemed a bit rough for my liking. The cardroom does look nice on the website tho.

€1-€3 I think. FWIW the only tournament I played there was terrible, but the cash game is good fun.

I only ever played the 250 and it was very good. First Friday of every month.

Fitz for the atmosphere. Sporting Emporium for the drunken cash games. Was in both on saturday and enjoyed the fitz a hell of a lot more.
Be prepared for lots of loose gambling types.

    Poker in Galway:

    Casinos

Four aces, Dominick Street. Closed on Monday. Some tournament daily at 9:30pm, cash game from about 1am.

Club 21, just off Eire Square. Tournaments on some days (I have no info on that), cash game from about 2am.

    Organised

Westwood Hotel. Wednesday from 7pm (I think). Big tournament.

Sunday Freeroll / Sunday Poker Steps, Bridge club, St. Marys Road. See this thread.

    Casual

There are loads of home-games going on all the time. We have one on every Monday night. Its a 25 euro freeze-out (max. 10 players) with dealer's choice afterwards. If you're interested, give me a ring on 086-3471879. Obviously, this also applies to other readers.

The blinds are 1/3 and its not as loose anymore as it used to be...
Hmmmm....let me refrase that. Its loose now, but used to be wild.

BTW, they have a (crappy) web site too: www.4acescasinogalway.com
