I can type with several fingers without looking- but not on the right home keys usually - bad habits,eh.

We had to learn in college as part of our course - I flunked. I'm in IT you see and that's how we make bugs.

I'm not bad, but I don't use the home keys or all fingers.

Not only can I touch type, but I am fast, smooth, and delicate to the touch where it really counts.;)

I'm the same. I don't know how to type properly at all, but I use all my fingers, don't need to look at either the keyboard or the monitor (aside from the odd peek to check things) and am fast.

Well, I was like this (Albeit, slower) years back when I first started typing. Then, I learned to touch type. Then, I forgot again..

Back in SA one of our matric (leaving cert) subject choices was Typing :D . Of course there was a lot more involved, not just tpying, but it was fairly piss easy, by grade 10 i was *technically* able to pass my matric :D. Unlucky for i moved to ireland and wrote the leaving cert.

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs.

Can type about 40 wpm when copying something, when I am typing something out of my head such as posting here or blogging I can get up to about 60 or 70 wpm.

I can't, well, I kind of can, I just touch typed this post, without too many mistakes. I don't use all of my fingers, or the right home keys. Oh well. I find dual finger stylee is faster, and more pleasing !

I did the same course in transition year but I couldn't learn to touch type. Posting lots of crap on the internet has learned me goodly, though my grammar and spelling has suffered.

    What are the home keys?

Right baby finger on the right hand shift and both thumbs on the space.... thats all I remember :v:

[touch type]Hum let's see, I guess I can but not too gast (there is one mistake), I am not going (another) it for this post but usuallt (ding) I can touch type 80% of the time and then take quick glanced at the keyboard[/touchy typy]

Not so bad, like I said most of the time I am switching between looking at monitor and keyboard to keep my placement.

I can type extremely fast but not using the home keys. Could never get to use that comfortably to be honest, but I can usually type as fast as, if not faster, then someone using the home keys.

What home keys do other people use? mine seem to be

[shift]aef nkl[/] and one thumb is on the space bar.

    I dont know why

Yeah, one of our exercises in Communications (I'm doing Computing) is a program called Accutype... Sweet Je*** if ya don't know how to type after that, there's seriously something wrong with you. And it's bloody worth about 25% of our overall Communications mark!

Annoying, but I guess it helps our course...

My left hand sits on the proper home keys but my right hand doesn't. I can't type fast and by touch but not correctly like alot of people said.

Any free programs for counting how many words per minute?

My desk has the slide out thing for my keyboard.. its not working right at the mo, so my keyboard is on it, - therefore I cant see the keys, therefore i can touch type. Took type-writing lessons before i got to secondary school, from 1st year on i was doing any computer course on the go, had quite a high speed since I was about 13. While in my leaving years I was doing an advanced computer courses including accountancy/payroll etc. not much changes - I'm always doing some course or other.

yes I can. Never had any lessons, but I think my fingers usually rest in the 'right place' anyway. Just learnt from a lifetime of using the bloody things (both my fingers, and the keyboard)

that gave me a giggle.. wouldnt you see by the screen if you were typing crazy? :p

Nope. Though my fingers do rest on opposite sides of the keyboard. Like billy the squid, can get about 50wpm when copying. Around 80wpm if typing from my brane.

I learned to touch type on the good ol' reliable typewriter, a much tougher way to learn. I am not perfect, but I can and do touch type.
