Wondering what the average time between implant for front teeth and gum swelling to go down?

Had surgery over a week ago and gum is still swollen and sore, stitches are not due to be removed for another week though so maybe worried over nothing, hoping this is normal. Its definately not anywhere near as sore as it was for the first few days afer surgery, but is about the same since day four painwise tbh (day 9 now), am a non smoker.

That said lips are loosing blackness and swelling totally gone from there.
I know standard advice is ask the doc but don't want to be a pansy and bother them if this is normal, am not in agony, far from it, just need to know wheter my healing expectations are unreasonable.

Did you have an implant placed with bio-oss augmentation or just a bone augmentation.....????? The answer depends on that

Not sure what the correct answer is here, front tooth was knocked out when I hit a stone on the road on my bicycle when I was about 11 years old and went over the handlebars, it was put back in but..

That tooth snapped about 24 years later munching on fridge cooled Belgium chocolate...., so now getting implant.

The Bio-Oss stuff is to be there for about a year then the implant will happen.
I just want to know if badgering my surgeon is warrented, am under no real pain and life goes on as normal, just want to know is the healing going as normal.

I had an abcess at the top of my upper right 2. I had 2 root canals to try and erradicate it but as the lining of the abcess was still there I finally had to get an apesectomy. The problem was that because the root canal was done I could not feel any pain and the abcess kept growng in size and 'eroded' away a large portion of bone.
Anyway I went to this specialist guy who took a couple of x-rays and told me that I would need bio-oss. I had the work done under local (so disturbing but little pain) and 24 hours later my face looked like the elephant man!! I was so swollen that I could not see properly out of my right eye!!! I called and suggested that rather than call down I'd send him a digital photo. He called back to tell me that this was normal and the swelling should begin to subside soon - he was right as my face returned to normal within 72 hours. But the tenderness didn't go untill about 2 weeks after my stitches were removed. It's now 6 months since the job was done but I can still feel the odd twinge in my jaw bone every once in a while but the instances are getting further apart. I've had two check ups since and all seems to be healing well - my next check up is in July. I had my last check up in late January and I was told then not to put too much pressure on the tooth in question for 'a while yet' as healing is not yet complete. I think it could be 12 months or more before everthing is totally normal.
If your doc has an email address send him an email with your concerns and/or a photo if you do not want to 'bother' him. On the other hand if you have a concern best you voice it to him to be on the safe side - I expect this little op cost a few € so why not ask - I'm sure you doc is as intersted in your healing going according to plan aswell.
Best of luck - keep those Nurofen+ close at hand - I know how you feel. It wasn't the highlight of 2005 for me!

Unfortunatly like any biological system you never know how each individaul is goin to respond. Some people can have major oral surgery and be playing golf the next day others have a lot of swelling and pain. The only thing you can do is best surgical techniques and plenty of appropriate analgesia. Dont let complications put you off often as the benefits far outweigh the temporary discomfort.
