    Install probably didn't take - un-install and try a re-install.

If it came with it's own disc, sometimes you'll need to 'under-install' the device. This means you install x piece of software first. shut-down/connect new hardware/re-boot(start-up the pc) and windows should then find and correctly install the new hardware...

What kind of network device wired or wireless ?

If wireless and you installed the supplied config utility that came with it they usually disable the Windows wireless nic control panel, you need to disable/uninstall the third party control panel to re-enable the Windows one.

    what operating system?

add/remove programs in windows or see if it has it's own un-installer. generally you'll find this via start/programs/name of third party program/name of program un-install

you'll need to un-install the hardware from with in device manager as well. open device manager (My Computer/right click/properties/HardWare Tab/device manager/ click on device/right click/select un-install - registry settings for the hardware will then be deleted.

Shut down and Unplug the device. Then re-start. Insert disc and it should 'Auto-Run', follow the directions and 'Under-Install' the drivers/Third party software'. Shut down and re-connect the usb device. Windows XP should then install the device correctly (Remember - it's 'Plug n PRAY not Plug n PLAY ;) - it is windows you know lol).

Theres two ways to install usb devices I've found. One generally allways works. Either connect the equipment and let windows find and install it or follow the above 'Under-Installing' procceedure - one of them generally allways works for me.

Other than that with usb I've found it to be a bios setting generally the usb not being set to 'Legacy' - not sure why but it seems to cure usb faults if one or the other above install methods are used. Setting usb to legacy one of those methods allways works for me...

    :)
