There will be a big difference between the pop up flash on the camera and the flashgun. I'd say go with the SB600, I use it myself on my D200 and i'm pretty happy with it. Costs about €300 which is about €150 less than the SB800, and i doubt you'll need the SB800 with your D70.

It doesn't matter if you use a D70 or a D200 or a D2X, buy a flash gun according to your needs. The 800 is ~ twice as powerful as the 600 (guide numbers of 184 and 90 respectivly). Other than that, the 800 can be a master as well as a slave unit while the 600 can only be a slave. The 800 comes with a diffusion dome and an adapter that lets you use 5 AA batteries for faster recycle time. Sigma do a ITTL compatible flash gun aswell, Sigma EF-500DG Super Na-iTTL. I personally recommend the SB800 as the first one. Also, you cannot go wrong buying either since you can always buy the other model and use two (or more) flash guns. Go to the Nikon website and download the SB-800/SB600 Speedlight Techniques Guide:

unless you have need for full Photoshop (CS2) , I would recommend you get Photoshop Elements. You can get this online for less than €100 (afaik). http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopelwin/main.html

Adobe are also testing a new product called Lightroom. Will probably be sometime before it's on the shelves, will be targeted towards more advanced photographers. http://labs.macromedia.com/technologies/lightroom/

My opinion on Nikon Capture is that it's not worth anything. It should be free when buying a Nikon DSLR. The only thing it can do that others can't is install custom curves onto you camera, of no use to you if you shoot RAW.

    cheers

also - this is commonly regarded as the best RAW converter - free version is good enough for most , but unfortunately no MAC version =(
