Looking to form Japanese music band

I'm a 17 year old male vocalist, I live in the Drogheda region of Co.louth. I was wondering if anyone who shared a passion about japanese music would like to form a band that would sing covers of japanese music and possibly write original songs. We could perform the song(s) in either its original japanese or an english version of them. My favourite japanese groups singers include Gackt,Hyde form L'arc en Ciel and Utada Hikaru, most notably Gackt.Age ideally would be around 17-19 bracket but I'd love to hear from anyone who is interested really.

Man, unfortunately I don´t have any Japanese language skills but I think it would be great if you would find somebody for your project. I am living in Dublin and formed a band with German guys and we sing our material in German:

all the best with your plans

BTW you don't have to be able to speak japanese to join, i'd be happy to just do the same songs but in English and even you wanted to we could just do it phonetically. I was mostly trying to show the type of music I liked and was hoping the band would play for covers ect or if you wanted to join and write original material I was just trying to show the style I was thinking.

Since this dosen't seem to be going very well can anyone suggest where else to look for people to join the band. Thanks

Well there must be Japanese students in some of the schools, but the band members don't need to be Japanese.

Is it that no one here likes Japanese music or no one has really heard it?

The site you tube had music vidoes and live performances of Gackt (they play in flash player so no huge waiting time) and other Jrockers/ Jsingers in General. The style in most of them is very different so I hope I put something up for everyone

Here are some links of examples:
    Muisc Videos

and an excellant piano version gackt did of his "last song"(usually on guitar)

Another excellant song by gackt is oasis, many people who don't really like him like that so try it if you want to and have time. Has anyone listened to the music what do you think?

i think it's a lost cause to be honest...

Ok, I guess no one likes Gackt. Have any of you heard Hyde he has an enligish version of his album Roentgen. Hyde writes alot of anime/cg/movies theme songs, such as blood+ and final fantasy the spirits within. If you don't like the tracks off Roentgen then I think you would like his far heavier tracks off his newer album 666. Personally I like Roentgen better because of his experimentation and the fact that he doesn't rely on an electric guitar and his vocals are excellant in both the japanese and english version except that's its hard to understand his englsh sometimes.

Am I trying to cover the wrong Japanese singers or is it just Japanese music in general, or is it just people live in the wrong area to join this type of band?, just wondering exactly where I went wrong. Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46 Ilusa

Is anyone interested? I'm not looking for really experianced musicans. I was just trying to start a band to so we could gain some experiance together.

You know something? I'd be up for it, if it were not for the fact that I live in Galway.

two months late to the conversation but you never know ^_^

I wish i was actually some help here but this is just a vote of moral support for Ilusa! if i could play an instrument i'd be there! and of course if i were a little younger XD

its great to hear people in ireland have an interest in j-rock (there is hope for my sanity!)

i gotta say from my (limited) knowledge of Drogheda music scene its, wot, Simic (if they are still there its been a while) and lots of metal bands. Gackt and Hyde may be too light for some people :D check out Hyde's new album "Faith" for some converts he has some rougher stuff on it, and lots is in english so it also could win over some people :)

    Good Luck/Gambatte nee!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46 Ilusa

thanks obsidian! Yeah I really like Hyde's faith album maybe people would like faith, coutdown and Jesus Christ. Actually I've managed to get people to join. So far we have 2 singers, one guitarist, one violinist,a drummer, and the guitarist and I can both play the piano so I think it's going well. Gackt has some heavy songs mayber I picked the wrong ones for people hmmmm, do you think people would like Pierrot or Kirito or maybe L'arc en ciel(quiet light too so maybe not lol), Malice Mizer, Dir en Grey, or even Moi dix Mois??. Any suggestions. Thanks again

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17 Obsidian~eyes

oooh if you do covers 'Its sad' from Faith is a must!! it rocks so much ^_^ (i shall stop myself before i get to fangirly)

firstly especially since you've got together such a large group already you should really focus on what you want to do and would like and enjoy to play, i could be completely wrong with my 'go rougher' approach :)

now down to the bands ^_^ i havent heard too much Pierrot or Kirito but i know what you are talking bout, personaly i'm not a big Malice Mizer fan or Moi dix Mois (Mana kinda scares me ^_^ i mean i'm all for VK but dude looks like a LADY!) so i'm not familiar enough

Dir en Grey, Kyo is a legend and i'm not even a big grey fan and i still would tell you to run with this band. i think people (especially drogheda) wud like maybe even respect the band i mean they are pretty wild on stage :D so that would be my advice (which is just a guess :o )

erm after that i gotta ask (its my duty) ^_^ are you a Gazette fan??

 I don't think that was fangirly lol have you ever seen a forum about Gackt and it starts with his voice and music but by page 3......... some pretty distrubing things are said.

Cool, I'll give it ago it will try me a while to transpose everything in the song though but I'll try anyway.:)

Gazette are cool, and very unique. I like what I've heard from them and I really like the guitar in shadow. They really feel like a rock band aswell compared to some other jrock groups. I'd love to hear more of their music so I can decide i'm one of their fans.:)

Nad about Kyo I certainly won't be cutting myself(or anything fanservicey) lol, maybe ketchup lol. And yes Mana can be very scary although I just thought when you said heavier than Gackt then Malice Mizer would be it, although I only have Mervielles I'd love to get the band score for it although not vene ebay has it any more.Although I think old school Diru could compete for mana's scary factor is spme people saw it, when people think gackt and Hyde look like girls(present gackt and Hyde lol not blurry eyes, kimono(Gackt) time lol) then you know a fulll on visual band would give them a cardiac arrest lol.

thanks for your support again :)

I KNOW! i get Shoxx and some of my friends have FREAKED out when they find out EVERYONE in that magazine is male, and i dont know HOW many times i've had to convince people the likes of Ruki and Miyavi are men, but its the curse of being a niche market not everyone is going to like it ^_^

oh if you need any help becoming a bigger Gazette fan let me know (pm)
i shud be their official Irish spokes person i make enough converts in a week >_<

Osidian eyes loves simic. And she's making fun of them. Even though she loves them.

We were going to Germany to see the Gazette... but now we aren't. Can I still pretend to have a clue what you guys are talking about?

Yeah sure the more the merrier.:)

i didnt diss simic i just said thats all thats there!
and in fairness they are a one trick poney, it may be a perdy poney though ;)

and you are very welcome to pretend, i actually thought you'd flame me since you seem to try and warn peoples off my obsession (a.ka. mini connor) or at least threaten to and even though i'm such a good little girl and keep it in a box when we are in public so as not to annoy you :D:D:D

i didnt know you were on boards! i joined when i found this thread i thought it was too good to be true!

Hey, I'm in Cork so obviously I can't form a band with you, but I appreciate what you're doing. We're a rare breed, us j-rockers, so it's good to see someone trying to start a scene. In all my travels in Cork, I've only ever met 2 other people who were into j-rock, so while I wish you the best of luck, I think you're hopes of sqeezing a band out of Drogheda are slim.

And anyway, we all know X-Japan rule the roost.

Certainly not. Fantastic band right there, although I've not seen that video before.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 300 ✭✭nickcave

Yeah they were the beans alright. I remember getting rightly laughed at for imitating their hair back in secondary school. It was worth it though.

I seriously think that there's a huge potential for visual rock in Ireland. It just takes one band who know how to play and who can pull off the look and before you know it, a plethora of similar acts start up. It'll boom, I tell you.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

I really don't know if a visual rock band could take off in Ireland, but I can tell you one thing, I'd be there to see them reguardless.

Although I'm interested now, how exactly did you imitate their hair?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,419 ✭✭✭nadir

Ilusa yeah I'm up for it, were actually looking for a singer, we were thinking of doing power metal, but yeah cool, I mean I'm a huge japan freak so sounds wicked.

edit: do you hang on jpopsuki ? or have you checked out eirtaku?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 300 ✭✭nickcave

Dyed it pink and spiked it as best I could. I heard once that they used margerine for that vertical mohawk effect. I wouldn't be surprised; they've got amazing hold:D

Oh I'd definitely go see a visual band. Even if they were awful, just to see a visual band would be great.

I've been on both sites before but haven't signed, I will though later today. Are you saying you'd like to be in the band or do you want me to sing in your band, what instrument do you play.:) Good to see another person obbsessed with Japan.
Does anyone like the song endless rain by X-Japan?

Speaking on which does anyone have any ideas for a good song to start with?

    Thanks for the support everyone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46 Ilusa

    Pink spikes like this lol
    quiz2.jpg

Has anyone ever used that Manga gel maybe it's me but I don't think it works very well for manga/Anime/visual hairstyles anyway.

I don't think we are going to be fully visual more like Gackt,Hyde with just makeup(most people in the band are girls anyway lol), but hopefully mtv and other music channels will start showing Hyde, L'arc en ciel and Dir en Grey since they all are releasing albums within this month or very soon in America and Dir en Grey are opening most of Korn's shows in their American tour so ther's always hope.Pitty Dir en Grey aren't visual atm that might have helped a visual band make it.

    sadly i agree
its a pity but i dont think Ireland could take visual rock.
if there are even a hundred fans i would be surprised but maybe i'm wrong.

but i also agree that it only take one to actually take hold (i'm just sceptic)
    Ilusa wrote:

America is the hope here, it determines if we get VK cos everyone will follow suit is the US does it
although if Europe could just have a few more tours we'd be sorted
    *fingers crossed Gazette European tour*

Dir en Grey aren't VK anymore, but they're still very visual, and they look damn good too. They played RockAM Ring and Rock im Park last year as well as their own gigs in Paris. Does anyone know what they're up to this summer, excluding American dates?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17 Obsidian~eyes

excluding American Dates it doesnt look like they are coming to Europe

I know I actually like there new image better I think although did anyone disklike some of the harsher/english lyric songs on withering to death. I really like kodou for some reason.

I remember reading that Die and kyo were in Paris recently not giving a concert or anything, I think she said they were in hot topic(I think) signing albums, not sure how relieable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46 Ilusa

Yeah I was talking about VK I thought that's what the discussion on the previous page about visual rock was refering to, sorry for the mistake. I think a band with Dir en Grey's current style/image would not have much opposition I think VK would be more difficult to break through, but I'd really like to see that happen.

I wonder if it could happen if all the gothic and emo music listeners got into the Jrock/visual scene, that would be a substantial boost perhaps?

Maybe. Most emo people tend to be so deeply rooted in the American scene that I don't think a VK infusion would have any influence. I mean, there's a big difference between that stupid emo haircut, black nail polish et al, and the full on VK experience. Time, for one thing.

New Diru look is fantastic. I think it's the best they've ever looked. Have you seen the video for saku?

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=bZsyWFCAWfE

It's one of those with the shockingly disgusting but harmlessly nonsensical English lyrics. A great video.

edit: kodou is there too if you haven't seen it.
