I got a 400GB HDD here on boards, and also a HDD Inclosure. I installed the HDD in the inclosure and plugged it in. It installed itself but it doesn't show up in My Computer. Am I missing anything? what should master/slave be set to on the drive?
(Using XP and the drive is unformatted)

I tried putting it in my comp. In the primary IDE channel, set as the slave drive. Started it up, set the bios to auto detect it. Windows detected it, said it installed it, but it still doesn't show up in My Computer. device manager says its working properly.

Maybe it needs to be formatted?

    Got to start>run type mmc
Then go File>Add/Remove Snap In. Add 'Disk Management'
You can then format the hard drive if needs be.

Ok, I've done all that, I can see the new drive, it says its unallocated, but I can't find any command to format it. Do I have to create a new partition on it? I went into this option, its giving me the option to format it, but it'll only let me use the NTFS file system. Is it true that only newer versions of windows use this?

EDIT: also, I plan on using this as an external hdd, does this mean I shouldn't assign a drive letter?
