 A freind of mine has a pc that wont start up. The last week or so it has ben shutting down automatically without any warning. Then last night thinking it was a temperature problem, he opened it up and gave it a good clean ( Don't worry he didn't use soapy water ). When hed went to restart all fans etc clicked into action but the pc just froze. He couldn't even get to the bios. He seems to think that it is the ram. Any ideas?????

    FYI
He's running. P4 2.4, 512mb's Ram, WinXp Home, Jetway MOBO, raedon 9800 pro. Machine is about two years old.

Replace each part with a different one till you find out which is causing the problem

take antistatic precautions 1st, take out reseat ram simms, memory units, disconnect hard drive ide cable from hardrive, make sure jumpers on hd and cdrom dvd drives are on properly.YOU CAN earth yourself by touching water /sink taps metal part.if hd or cdrom badly connected it stops bios from loading.

Also try resetting the BIOS to default using the CMOS clear jumper.
