ok im so sorry if this is considered off topic or if its supposed to be somewhere else in boards or if you've had it before...BUT i was wondering what peoples thoughts on revenge were?
i don't mean it in the really sadistic way for instance i would consider it in war completely ridiculous and uncalled for but im talking more along the lines of if say a friend does you wrong, or an acquaintence does you wrong, do you have the right to give back what you got? whether they find out or not....and if not..where do you draw the line of when you can and cannot cause revenge on someone? at the moment im in a way planning revenge on someone whos really close to me because in my eyes they deserve it for a particular grievance (no idea if i spelt that right) but i dont think i should be made feel guilty about it....whats your thoughts?

I don't like revenge at all.....although it may seem sweet at the time...deliberate revenge I have instigated always leaves me with a bitter taste in my mouth.....I prefer to believe in karma & am seldom disappointed....:)

I think many people do things which makes them fully deserving of a good ol' bit of revenge and when such things happen you're fine in my book if you get your revenge. However, that's not "my bag".

i dunno..i see you points but i have "had" to conduct some revenge in the past, and to this day i look upon them as more of a well executed project, sadistic but i do plan them out well and havent yet felt guilty about any of them, i know my limits, i stick to them

Depends on the situation. In the immediacy of someone giving me abuse I hurl it back ten-fold i.e. if I'm out and someone is gving me ****, once I open up no quarter is given.

In a longer term sense.....I reckon I probably wouldn't bother. I mean, barring the obvious stuff like a cheating partner, or whatever, what would I want with revenge?

If someone tries to shaft me in some way, I'll just stop them, and yeah, i will usually make sure they feel like a child caught with their hand in the cookie jar but that's all.

Then again, as I write this I'm kind of thinking the difference beteen what I'm talking about, and what you're talking about is semantics.

Example: New Years eve I was enjoying a few bottles of wine with an ex, she had actualy made contact with me and thought it would be good to catch up, I thought cool, and we had a good evening, nothing saucy/sinister, just really engaging conversation, and good company. Then towards the end of the night she turned into a bitch, she made a particularly malicious remark toward me while her friends were in the room, so i responded in kind, and then left.

Now I would say I was just balancing the scales, and reminding her of exactly where her palce as. But is that any different to revenge? I think it is, because a few days later I got onto her and offered her the chance to talk out whatever issue existed, whereas if it's just revenge that would never have occured to me.

when we were younger my friend and I would seek revenge on people in really childish ways, like prank calling and texting them, and even though I know it was really childish, it was damn funny at the time and just what we needed to make us feel better about whatever the situation was.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 77 ✭✭Yazamalainia

ok so different question perhaps, have you carried out revenge? how much did the person deserve it in your opinion, and how did you feel after?

i'd say the last one i carried out successfully, was on someone id say was an acquaintence, they severely screwed over maybe about 5 peoples lives from what i could see, made people feel bad about themself, made up rumours for their own entertainment and eventually made a guy leave school because he was bullying him so much, so.....i got revenge, no one actually knew it was as a direct result of me, but the poeple that were wronged previously by him felt better, i felt id done a service in a way.
