    Whats the best thingymajig for downloading music. Ive tried Shareaza and Ares already but whats the best free one out there. By the way... just how illegal are they?

    P2P in itself is not illegal. It's what it's used for that's generally illegal.

    As I say, it's the uses.

    I think that classic P2P programs, the Kazaa's of their day, are going out of fashion in favour of BitTorrent, though you can get classic looking 3rd party programs that make it easier to use.

    emule will get your anything, as long as ports are set up nice and your willing to wait a while and leave your pc one alot you cant do better if you wanted to more obsucure 'distros'. torrents for your more popular malarky :cool:

    They generally seem to co-exist with each user having their preference. Newsgroups have been around longer though.

    Surely torrents are more popular seeings that they're free?

    You do have to pay for newsgroups indeed, unless your ISP supplies an account. They're not as easy to use as torrents either, you need a fair bit of know how to get the best out of them.

    They're getting gradually more popular though... won't be long until they get too popular and start coming under attack I'd say. Showers of muppets like usenext are making them too easy to use.
