Ok, he may have been no where near taking down Blueface but it sure is a funny story.

I burst myself laughing today when a work collegue told me this.

I told him about Blueface yesterday. He was all gung ho and wanted to try it out, so he went with their business package. I told him to tell them I referred him, but he didn't. That's another story :)

Anyway, we both work for a company that sells phone systems. One part of our system is H.323 and SIP PBX. He wanted to hook up blueface to one of our servers so it could use Blueface as the SIP to PSTN gateway. That's all well and good.

He goes about configuring the server and making sure all the connections are ok. However, he didn't configure it properly and left the server running for hours.

At about lunch time, he calls me to see if my Blueface is ok. I tested it and all was fine. Gave him a few suggestions and if that didn't work to get in touch with Blueface Support as they are quite good and resolving and replying to requests.

Anyway, he gets back on to me a while later. When he announced himself to the Blueface Support guy, the support guy said that he was just typing up an email telling him that his account had been suspended. It worked out that because the server wasn't fully configured, it was sending thousands and thousands of failing login requests to Blueface, flooding their network :D At that point, I just burst myself laughing. I swear there was a little bit of pee in my pants.

When he got the email, this was the subject
we were seeing thousands of these hammer our box

A snip of the message, note the time of each request

I'm sure Blueface sh@t themselves when they saw the flood of traffic. I know I would have :D

Yeah, well, I won't be configuring my server for Blueface until he irons out his config issues.

Dare you show your face on boards again for fear of redicule, ye mad thing?
