note taking

    Hi,

Been playing for a while but lots more of late. I'm not that great yet but am trying to improve my game. As far as I can see it my two biggest problems are disclipline and reads.

The disclipline I'm working on, to be honest I think most of it comes from not playing for long enough, both overall and per session. By the second part of this I mean sitting down and playing for an hour or so, when I do this I tend to go too far with medium hands as I'm not giving myself a chance to sit tight and pick only the best hands.

As regards reads I basically have to start taking good notes, does anyone have any link or guide or suggestions as regards note taking??

    thanks in advance

If your talking about playing online, www.pokertracker.com

Its better to give yourself a good amount of time to play poker. Its very common to lose before you start winning, and it can take a while to land a good hand.

Also if you are getting distracted easily, try multi-tabling to play more hands per hour.

luckily I am winning, but just not enough.

Basicaly was not doing too great, last november the penny dropped, I decided to concentrate a whole lot more for a month and ended up 1K better off. (thank you pokerroom omaha tables:D )

My problem is that I'm still not a consistant winer and I want to change this. Was looking at pokertracker but for holiday reasons I have to take 6 months off from poker in two weeks so there's no point in starting it yet.

I'm hoping that I can go on a brilliant run for the next two weeks and amass me a nice stack.

i'd be interested in hearing about this too. i tend to make very brief notes about a player (calling station, donkey, decent player, rock etc.) and occasionaly a note about a specific play a player made using the player notes function on allin and betfair.

is there a better way to go? should i start a spreadsheet with more detail? is there a poker note nomenclature? should i get a little black book and jot down details in it everytime i play?

This is all in regard to online play.

    Thanks.

For starters don't put in things like "idiot" "donkey" "fu*king gobsheen" this is pointless.

when you look back on the notes they need to make some sort of sense.

They can be short and sweet but must have some concrete info, but these sort of notes are usually not good enough to make a reliable call

    e.g.

Loose player, always open raises from the button with any two.
Wouldn't let go off JJ on Q high board after a bet on every street.
    Weak leads with made flush.
    Always check/raises flopped set.

Then you can get into more detail

have sections for different parts of his play

    position
    pre-flop
    post flop
    turn
    river

and as you play with the same players the profile will become more complete.

I'm sure hector and the lads will have much more advice to offer than I as I'm not a big note taker.

I tend to just give players one word notes, like "bad", or "v.passive" etc. Sometimes I would include examples of hands or what they did in particular situations, but not often. Pokerace HUD does a lot of the hard work for me tbh. :v:

Yes, if you're using pokertracker alongside something like pokerace there's not a huge need to write detailed notes.

    like my ones on cianos

    "F8cking idiot"
    "fishy f*cking w*nker*
    "**** *** ***"
