Does anyone have an old, working external SCSI Exabyte Mammoth tape drive that they don't need?

This the 8mm tape unit ? Could handle up to 20 Gb with the right tapes ?
I think Exabyte made them for a bunch of vendors ... they were just rebadged.

I just might have one gathering dust in the attic ... will check this evening and reply.

what treasured goodies have you on 1990's tapes anyway ?

Hey trout, that's the one! I'd really appreciate if you could have a look.

I could tell you what's on the tape (from 1995) but then I'd have to track you down and kill you! :-). (I have other plans for the weekend!)

    Best,

OK .. so far I've found 4 mm DAT drives, 2 DLT's, and even a Qic-80 ... but no external 8 mm DAT

I do have an internal 8mm DAT unit ... came from a HP box in the late 90's ... and that might .. I say might read your tape(s)

I'll hook it up this evening and let you know if it runs or not

how hopeful are you that your tape(s) haven't turned into mush after 10 years ?;)

well, i actually have loads of these tapes I could do with getting at! My old one seems to be, well, preparing itself to join the great tape drive club in the sky.

It's on a Mac under retrospect which makes things more complex.

Additionally all the different mammoth tape drives write different formats (http://www.exabyte.com/support/online/kb/display.cfm?id=152)

i think i am really going to have to find one of those drives.
