    DJ Shadow is almost certain. Flaming Lips more than likely. And possibly Damien Rice. This is all rumours btw. Oh and Radiohead will more than likely not be playing.

    Massive attack is the name I hear bandied around the most but could be based on nothing.

    Just random guesses of possibilities:
    RJD2 is doing some American festivals around now... so I wouldnt be surprised to see him show. Possibly Wolf Parade. If Death Cab for Cutie show anywhere its gonna be here. Ladytron possibly doing a live set. The Fiery Furnaces.. Four Tet.. maybe KMFDM. There'll probably be at least one 80s icon... maybe Duran Duran though wouldnt be surprised if its someone as big as the Pet Shop Boys or Blondie.

    And on a personal note I think theyd be making a huge mistake if they dont book Mew.

    Dont forget that with 3 days I think the general music style will broaden but theyll still go for slightly off mainstream bands.

    Geographic location makes no odds and it needs to be close to Dublin (so all the advertising and PR types who have rediscovered the outdoor festival can nip down in their beamers for the day). There's two months between the two festivals and they do pull entirely different audiences (generally speaking).

    Electric Picnic will have some competition this year. There's a news festival called "Hi-Fi" taking place in Belevedere House (near Mullingar) in August with a similar type of vibe.

    Gary Numan is confirmed. Talk of Beastie Boys and Massive Attack. Daft Punk are a no.

    Also heard Redneck Manifesto will be returning

    * The Polyphonic Spree (new album out in a few months)
    * The Crimea
    * The Return of the Flaming Lips
    * Devo
    * Beck
    * The Beastie Boys

    i'd put money on them at least trying to book Tiga (2006's Mylo...)

    i have the utmost faith in them providing a top notch lineup again:)

    wow some one metioned MEW. really can't see it happening. I'd love if the massive attack rumour was true. And it would be great if the Yeah Yeah Yeahs confirmed.

    Mew are perfect Electric Picnic material. Saw them last week and it was amazing. Their AV show would blow away the crowd. Someone on the EP boards claimed they had inside knowledge and that they were almost a definite but god knows if its bull or not.. but probably a strange band to start a rumour about.

    Mew are excellent live.. would be a great gig alright.

    Well it might be related to the Hi Fi Festival thats gonna take place in the UK:

    Hi Fi Festival

    The North Hi Fi festival has Editors, Ian Brown, Maximo Park, Audio Bullys, Sasha, Paul Okenfold, 2 Many DJs, Pete Tong and a few others.

    Nothing announced for the South Hi-Fi festival, but I would imagine it would be something similar.

    But I guess this would need to be in a thread of its own

    OMG!
    do you think they would actualy have that good of a line up?
    where was this all confermed?!
    imagine, ian brown practicaly in my back garden!
    when is it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 337 ✭✭odhran

    I hope the E.P. line-up is better than that. Apart from Editors (Who I'm going to see anyway), it sucks!

    Wolf Parade, Death Cab For Cutie, Mew, Blondie and Ladytron all at one festival? That would be incredible! Add Yeah Yeah Yeahs and it's my idea of heaven!

    Its all on that link I posted. But I cant imagine Ian Brown playing it, especially if its around the same time as the UK ones. Sure he's playing Dublin Castle only a few weeks before that!

    Not the most imaginative lineup though, very much in the same vein as Oxegen.

    Yeh thats mostly wishful thinking on my part.. dont get too excited. Its not outside the realms of possibility that any one would play but its probably unlikely that all would.

    One thing I heard about the Electric Picnic is they had Arcade Fire booked back in october 04. I get the feeling someone with their ear to the ground is responsible for the lineup and I hold out alot of hope for the lineup this year.

    i've heard that a tribe called quest where a possibilty. i think they wud go down well with the crowd that the picnic will get. i have been to the fist two e.p.'s and i have full faith that the line will be as good if not better than last year.

    wud love to see gangstarr there

    That would be savage. Death Cab would be great too, and I love Four Tet but I've heard any number of times that he's **** live.

    I actually set up a petition about this awhile ago... it's not doing majorly well as yet but it's just something where people can put down their ideas for bands which can then be sent off to the organisers. So feel free to comment
    here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

    I doubt your petition will have much impact. Thats just the nature of online petitions and getting organisers to listen to suggestions in general. I remember Glastonbury used to have a "suggest bands you want to see page" and it just instantly became a mess of impossible suggestions (the beatles etc). Im glad youve got Mew on it though.

    Oh I know they rarely have an impact but I always operate on the basis that it's better to at least try these things. What have you got to lose? Not a damned lot. Plus EP is a bonafide boutique festival which allows for a little more optimism, I feel.

    Okay, I just got this off my source on the inside ... looks like the line up will be something like this:

    Gary Numan - Massive Attack - DJ Shadow - Anthony & The Johnsons - Groove Armada - Stereolab - Nurse With Wound - Pet Shop Boys - Basement Jaxx - New Order - NWA - 2 Live Crew - Autechre - The Orb - Mogwai - Art Brut - MF Doom - The New Pornographers - King Creosote - MIA - Suburban Kids With Biblical Names - U-Roy - The Redneck Manifesto - DJ Krush - Caustic PhleX - Destroyer - Fingathing - Husky Rescue - Deerhoof

    Morrisey and Radiohead(with support from Beck) prob won't be playing as some people have suggested as they are playing different nights in Marley Park over the summer.

    I gotta go now, I think I'm being monitored, but I'll try and get back in contact soon.

    Hope there's a few more big names than that...looks pretty good though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,834 ✭✭✭Toast

    Theres very little on that list that hasnt been rumoured as strong possibilities on the official site forums over the last week so I dont see why anyone would be worried about being tracked down. Unless they were trying to add some credibility to something they just heard as a rumour of course. :-p

    Yeh what Sajan says

    Over on the EP forums they seem to think Belle and Sebastian, The Zutons, Jim Noir and Jose Gonazlez will be added. The line up posted above was pretty disappointing, seems mostly for the pills crowd. And them days are long since gone for me, the horrors the horrors....

    Hopefully when its fully announced at the end of the month it'll be worth waiting for. Strong rumours about Roger Waters and Prince which'd be cool.
