X-box 360 game pricing

Ok as some of you may have noticed I had a bit of a rant in another thread about "Game" and there over charging policy, I was being a bit unfair to Game. So in the interests of fairness. openess and transperency I would like to ask everyone to publish the store names where they have seen games priced above there RRP of €64.99 allow me to start the ball rolling. :D

Game, not a single game available in any of there stores that I have seen at the RRP

Gamestop, I have seen one or 2 titles at the rrp unfortunatly not all

    Xtravision, similar to Gamestop

There the only ones I've been in the last 2 weeks.

If anyone knows of a retail shop anywhere in Ireland that is selling the 360 games at the RRP or better consistantly (so not limited special offers) lets here who they are, so we can reward them for respecting there customers by shopping there, I'd far rather buy in a retail store than from the online stores but at the moment I don't have a choice unless I'm willing to pay over the odds:(

I should have said as well, I would love to hear the other side of this story as well, so if any of the retailers would like to have there say about why they feel they can/need to overcharge, well it is a public discussion forum guys and gals, lets here from you :)

IIRC, Smyths are selling at RRP.

Ok I've heard similar but I've never been in Harvey Normans so can someone confirm this?

If that's the case it would pay me to drive out to swords to pay Harvey a visit. I just hope they don't take it as there ads are having a positive effect, I just can't stand them and I don't want to encourage them :D

according to there Web site everything except Quake 4, Call of duty 2 and Gun are actually a fiver less than the RRP but the 3 mentioned above are all a fiver over but that's the best I've seen so far.

At this point Smyths and Argos have the best recommendations and neither claim to be specialist game retailers, whats that about, I would have thought the game specialists would have been able to offer better pricing due to economies of scale?

    where is harvey normans?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 261 ✭✭Alnilam

OK So it looks like all the retailers exept GAME and Gamestop sell in or around the RRP's

I'm stunned by "PC World/Currys/Dixons" selling games at the RRP, I hadn't even checked them out because of my prior experiences with them. I'll have to check them out over the weekend ;)

And well, Harvey Norman if what I'm hearing is true, you won't need those annoying ads anymore cause I will be singing your praises from here on. :D

In pc world its €64.99 in xtravison its €74.99 tis just not right tbh!

i have seen games up to the €70 mark in pc world waterford

Harveys hasn't that much of a selection but some of the games were defo under RRP, the rest were RRP. I got DOA4 for 54euro.

    Screw all the others, Game/Gamestop/etc....
I don't care if you work there, so no bitchy arguments like in the other thread
    Their owners/MD's are robbing b*****ds

I'll be checkin in harveys, and then to play.com/cdwow, cause I'd rather wait a couple of days than pay the extortional (is that a word?? :) ) prices!!

€64.99 is the RRP from MS so I have no problem with that, lower would of course always be better, but part of the reason that I started this thread was because I didn't know any stores that were selling at the RRP and one of the things that I find out is Argos are selling games new for the same price as "GAME" (in liffey valley anyway) are selling pre-owned games!

But what surprises me most to find out is that I can buy 360 games cheaper at retail than online and that also means that I don't have to wait for the damn thing to arrive in the post, so double bonus :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,566 ✭✭✭GrumPy

Ebay and harvey's ftw tbh, but when GRAW comes out, ill need that on launch, so i'll be running down to the local xtra-vision:)

Does HMV actually sell at RRP?

Their ps2 and xbox games were always more expensive then GAME and Gamestop.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 78 ✭✭freer

Nowhere sells all games at RRP, there is always going to be the more expensive game. This is like the Nintendo DS games were supposed to be between €29.99-€39.99 and i'v seen them go as high as €55-€60. Wonder what there gonna sell the 50GB Blu Ray PS3 games at? even tho it's cheaper than dvd to make from what I've heard.
LOL PMPL LOL PMPL. I can't belive you guys couldn't read that, anyway I've just put it into English lol pmpl. :D

I used to often wonder what that meant too! I resisted from asking coz i was confident that eventually I would have guessed what it was.Mystery solved and I don't think I would ever have thought of that.

No they don't, so seems a bit unfair to blame it all on Game and Gamestop.

however this proves it pays to shop around.

Two days was in Game, Shadows of the Collosus for PS2 - 49.99
Went to Game in Dawson street, same game - 59.99
    Play.com - 47.99
    CDWOW.ie - 43.99

Game, IMO, are great for finding little gems in their 2nd hand trays - but for pricing of standard games, they can be simply atrocious.

    Shop around people, shop around

This is not a witchhunt to slander GAME or GAMESTOP the reason I didn't highlight Virgin is because I don't know what there charging and no one had posted any details

On that note I was in Curry's and PC World in Liffey valley this weekend, curries had 2 titles at the RRP, the rest were the usual €5-€10 more. PC World don't seem to price there Xbox games so I can't say what there charging but there obviously hiding something bad by not pricing on the shelf :p

Let me be clear on my motivation with this thread, I want to see which if any of the retailers are selling 360 games at the RRP and also to see if the retail stores were/are able to compete with the play.coms of the world, turns out Argos and Harvey Norman can although they appear to have a limited range.

I think what I've learn so far is that the internet does not always offer the best price/service. play.com are more expensive than the retailers mentioned above and you have to wait up to 2 weeks for yer game to be delivered! I know where I'm going before before I order online in future. :D

Komplett are selling games for €53 and €56

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/kl.asp?bn=10435

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,838 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Surely at €60 per game, play offer great value, considering the prices some other places are charging. Komplett are selling for less, but you have to add postage costs on to that, play offer free delievery.

play charge €63.99 per game and include delivery, Argos charge €59.95 for the majority of there games and you can collect in any of there stores and not have to wait for the postman that's both exceptionally good value and great service.

From what's been said on this thread Harvey Normans are selling for similar to Komplett although I haven't been in swords yet to confirm that.

So taking those 2 as examples why would you buy online and have to wait for the delivery? unless of course there no where near you :D

Either way, it doesn't change the fact that the majority of retailers selling x-box games on the "irish high street" are placing the proverbial saddle on our backs and giving us the riding of a lifetime :(

Before I get moaned at again for being unfair to people, I am well aware that are people on this forum who work for these companies and unless your the person responsible for setting the prices I have no beef with you, If you are the one responsible for your companies pricing I would love to hear what you have to say on this topic.

Going back to the original topic, the highest I've seen is 82.99 for a few games in HMV in Drogheda's new shopping centre. Thieving gypsies.

Virgin charged €70+ for Quake 4 when it was bought for me for Xmas.
Also, CD Wow seem to be cheaper for 360 games than Play.

after i quoted xtravison been 74 for NFS:MW i ended up buying it there anyway just cause i was in there sunday morning before argus was open and couldnt be bothered waiting an hour.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,919 ✭✭✭✭Gummy Panda

play.com is more expensive if you pay them in euro. Pay them in sterling and it works out cheaper then their euro price.

I think there was thread on this before and someone said that the euro price they display is rough estimate of the sterling conversion with a credit card company. They still charge the card in sterling though. Not sure if this is true.

39.99 works out about 58-59 euro. Though argos are the same and straight away collection.

If argos have in stock buy it from them, otherwise play.com or cdwow

didn't know about that currency thing on play, thats a bit mad

Like I said I prefer to buy retail that whole here's my dosh and now I get to run off home like a schoolkid and play my new game :D as opposed to here's my dosh and now I have to wait for an indeterminate amount of time twiddling my thumbs, while I wait for an post to deliver

Having said that, 10-15% of a price difference and I, for 1, am happy to wait. So I'll prolly be buying most of my games from Argos or Harvey Norman in future if they have it in stock, if I have to "pre-order" Might as well have it delivered.

There is a new Argos extra store in Drogheda. All 360 games are €59.99 except for COD2, Quake4 and GUN (these are €69.99)

only if you are stupid enpough to let Play do the conversion. Just leave it as GBP and let your bank do the conversion. should come out as €58.68
