What exactly are the rules for this??

For example, I failed two of my xmas exams, if I do really well in two of my summer exams can they compensate for the two fails.

Also if I got 30 in an exam what do I need to compensate there?

No, it's absolute voodoo that's based partly on your results, partly on your continuous assesment, (apparently) partly on your lecturer putting in a good word for you and finally what the programme board decide at the end of the day.

I certainly qualify for comensation in terms of having enough excess marks and stuff, but If I was going to get compensated, would it have happened already or is that at the end of the year?

    End of year.

So basically even if I had enough marks to compensate, the board could meet up and reject it anyway?

The whole compensation thing in DCU is shrouded in mystery!!

It depends on a load of things - the course you're doing, the marks you got in the exams you failed, what the course lecturer thinks of you, the rules as set out by the programme board etc. etc.

You'll have to wait until the end of June to know for definite.

Yes, unfortunately. The marks you have so far are only provisional as agreed by the programme board for your course. In June, the marks for both semesters will be finalised by a Progressions and Awards Board which is made up of both internal and external examiners. Only then will you know if you have been compensated for definite.
