Owen Pallets band Final Fantasy are playing Whelans May 14th. Of course you should all know Owen Pallets name from the liner notes of Funeral as the person who co-wrote the violin work. Also you all should really know him for his own work as Final Fantasy because its brilliant...so nows your chance.

Tickets are 16 quid from Wav ticket office. This will go fast as soon as the "someone said these guys have something to do with the arcade fire" crowd jump on it (You know who you are... I saw you all at Wolf Parade) so get them quick.

I can't wait for this gig...but was wondering alright bout where to get tickets as only heard bout the gig on Whelan's website! I love "Has a Good Home"..such a class album!

For the gig I heard that it'll be just him, a looping pedal and his violin! Should be class to see live! :D

So where's this place to get the tickets?? I want to get them asap!

Yes I overestimated peoples ability to recognise brilliance... again. Seriously the new album "He poos clouds" is fantastic.. Ive been listening to it non stop. This is going to be a legendary show.

New album is a bit of a departure from the much catchier debut. At first I wasn't too impressed but it's grown a good bit and I won't tire of it as easily as the "has found a home".

Yeah, He Poos Clouds isn't as good as Has a Good Home IMO, but I do love "this Lamb Sells Condos", the piano work has a real Ben Folds sound!

Wow wow wow. Great gig which had everyone there standing with jaws agape. The first song he did (thats when the audience died) blew me away with the fantastic looping peddle work. I knew what to expect but to see one man with a violin create a soundscape so complex was breathtaking.

The crazy over head projecter + acetate visuals was impressive too and so fresh compared to the usual cgi stuff you see from most bands. Highlight for me had to be Song song song where he looped all the violin work (the album version being done with a string quartet) and then played over it.

Only dissapointment was that he didnt play "Please please please" after myself and a friend (who was elsewhere in the crowd) simultaneously requested it when he asked what to play next. He acknowledged the request but said he cant do it live well but nice of the DJ afterwards to play it after the gig. Was also nice to see Owen dancing in the front of Whelans for most of the rest of the night and chatting to people.

Friend was talking to him for a bit after and he says hes back in October. Apparently he was very flattered by the enthusiam of the crowd and to hear the ovation he got Im not surprised.

Full on brilliance and Im glad I dragged as many people I could to see it.

What kind of crazy drugs were you on? It was awful. Amateur is grand once it's in some way interesting or imaginative. This was really a Yoko moment.

The gig overall was great and it was fun getting there early and walking in on the sound-check. :)

I really wish those ignorant **** who were at the bar laughing and joking while he was performing would have just not bothered to spend 15 euros to do that. Why do those people turn up at all?

I wouldn't have said people had jaws agape. Certainly not from where I was standing. If they did then they've obviously only been to a few Rachel Stevens concerts before this gig.

yeah the projections were kinda distracting from the music, but still great gig!
was talking to Owen beforehand, really funny and down to earth! he was telling me that he was doing a festival in the summer in france somewhere(i think?) with the band whose tshirt i was wearing(it was an Isis shirt). he signed a cd for me and everything too!

what was up with the ridiculiously overenthuastic clapping after every song though ? if it was me up on stage, i woulda thought the audience were taking the piss or something....especially for the support band, who were technically proficient but ultimately boring

Ok I was probably a little dazed when I wrote that but I liked that she was building the visuals up in layers (like he was doing with sound on the violin). Yeh they got a bit ridiculous as the show went on but by that stage I was concentrating more on Owens playing. Still I felt it was refreshing for something as basic as an overhead projector and some acetate to be used and I've hope that she'll have things a lot tighter in future shows.

As for the audience I didnt mean literaly that jaws were hanging but certainly I felt that everyone was extremely impressed as shown by the (over-) enthusiastic clapping.

God were they ever. I liked the Orb song they did but only because I like the Orb. They were kind of annoying really.

    What?!?!!?

I thought the gig was amazing! I mean come on! Especially the tracks he did off He Poos Clouds, like This Lamb Sells Condos-brilliant! Just thought he was excellent!

Oh and yeah the "visuals" were a bit tack...but hey it was different! Coulda been worse!

Overall, thought it was brilliant! Oh and I enjoyed the Dublin Guitar Quartet...but then again I love Steve Reich so maybe that's it :o

I dont think anyone is saying it wasnt great ??!?

We appear to be arguing over wether the crowd was too enthusiastic when clapping and wether the visuals were a crap.

Apparently he was delighted by the crowds response so I think thats all that matters.
