was there last year they said they'd moved them to hungary, the zoos around europe are moving the animals around to group them together and look after them in a better manner

Yes they do have polar bears.

    Q. Why don't Polar Bears eat penguins?
    A. Because they can't get the wrappers off.

They're listed on the virtual map but not in the section about the different animals.

Last time I was there (Summer 2004) the enclosure was empty and the sign said they had been moved to Hungary. I was quite surprised because it was a nice new enclosure that was a huge improvement on the old one.

I have the family pass and I haven't seen them in the last year. They had gone senile anyway from being in the small enclosure and no wonder.

Thanks, Im obsessed with Polar bears, I have dreams about having my own Polar bear security guard and it goes to the gym with me and lifts weights. I reckon theyd make great bouncers cos theyd have the size and be strict but fair. This girl I was to go with is class, I wouldent be able to take many girls to go see polar bears, it would be too untrendy, everythings too trendy nowadays

That's a pity. I phoned dublin zoo to ask but the line is closed. I wonder were the closest zoo is that has them, London zoo doesnt and It's ****e anyway. I m still hoping someone says theyve been recently and has seen them.

I agree. The previous enclosure was terrible. That's where one of them went crazy years back and killed the cubs.

I was in the zoo in Tallinn, Estonia at the weekend and it's awful. Check out the poor bear in the pic. He wasn't happy at all. He was only 3 years old so I don't even know if he was fully grown. He probably was. The zoo have very little money but they are expanding as much and as often as they can afford to. Hopefully this guy will get an upgrade eventually. They are also very invovled in conserving Eastern European/Russian animals.

Why? They are seriously the most vicious creature known to man. Ask your average Zoo-keeper which animal he'd fear getting out the most, and the answer will always be the polar bear!

    I'm not kidding!

Stick to the cuddly-wuddly pandas I think.

I vividly recall as a child feeling so sorry for the two polar bears that had to endure that concrete pit with the seemingly stagnant water in in Dublin Zoo...
The sealions and penguins rocked though.

My memories of the Polar Bear in Dublin zoo were of a pathethic looking filthy animal walking forwards and backwards driven to insanity. It was quite depressing to look at. The poor bear.

Break in at night and spray normal bears white!

that or still bring her and when you get there produce a polar bear teddy and say "I'm promised you polar bears" oooh yeahh thats smooth!

Or you could beat her into the bushes and rape her while making polar bear noises and wear fake polar bear paws.....snarf snarf

thats why they were moved, the zoo underwent extensive work in the last five years, some animals were moved around, nowadays they don't have as many species but they have far more animals, they have loads of tigers etc and the enclosures are bigger, when they got the extra land they also moved around some animals, so now tigers have old tiger enclosure + old lion enclosure + old polar bear enclosure, ity's not as good as being in the wild, but with someof the animals being hunted to near extinction it's a good way to preserve and hopefully repopulate later.

There is a polar bear enclosure on the map but the last time i was there (Sunday) there were no polar bears. They also got rid of the elephants!!! They're in a zoo in Germany and Dublin zoo are getting breeding elephants in the next few months. And the meerkat thing is gone. They must be all over at the Restaurant. Damn meerkats are the best thing ever.

On the subject of animals we find at Dublin Zoo, I have a few questions regarding Penguins.

Do they have them in Dublin Zoo?
What's the security like around their area?
Would it be easy to kidnap one?
Would they fit in a rucksack?
Could it be possible to pass a penguin over the fence of the Phoenix Park to a friend waiting in a getaway car?
    Do they make good pets?

I'd say the make good butlers, they're dressed for it anyway.

They'd at least be better than those troublesome monkeys....oh so many wasted nights plotting and scheming! :v:

Just to clear something up around penguins and polar bears...

They never actually encounter each other in the natural world. Penguins are at the south pole, while polar bears are at the north pole.

As for Dublin Zoo... my best friend has been campaigning tirelessly to get more money for it.

Here he is outside Leinster House:
