    Hello all,

I'm not sure how successful this thread will be but how or never....

I'm looking to purchase myself a keyboard and i is looking for some recommendations pweese:)

Now i don't want a piece of **** casio yoke, i want something that is decent quality that has a nice piano sound but also some nice string sounds to, amongst other randomness..

Obviously it would have to be touch sensitive/weighted, whatever!!

I just want something i can learn on and that won't need to be replaced as soon as i become in any way good!

    Budget 3-400

Have you thought about a USB midi controller for about €100 and using it to control Ableton/Reason etc? Might be the cheapest way to get good sounds and a feel for keyboard

With that budget all i could recommend you find a secondhand Korg Sp200, or SP300 if you want built-in speakers.
    Or maybe a Yamaha P60.

Getting a USB Midi controller is a ver silly idea considering you want a good weighted keyboard (which midi controllers aren't) and to get a decent 88 key Midi controller would be just as expensive as getting a keyboard.

Well its just for learning on, midi controllers are under €80 on the net. Cheap introduction, and a midi controller wouldnt lose much value if you wanted to trade up to a decent keyboard after a few months.

Maybe you'd prefer a digital piano? They're smaller than uprights, have weighted keys, don't need tuning and usually have all or most of the snazzy effects of a keyboard. You'd easily get a good one within your budget. Only thing is they're not really as portable as a roland or casio basic keyboard.

If its just for learning on, I'd go with Piste. Digital Pianos can have weighted keys aswell as hammer action. Plus they're a nice piece of furniture. :)

You could get one for your price rang, but it might sound a bit sh1t (maybe look into second hand stuff on buy and sell?). You could remedy this by purchasing a decent set of head phones to work with. The speakers on my digital piano are very tempermental, so I do this.

Alternatively, you could a get a keyboard. Casio and roland do nice boards, as do yamaha with some decent effects. Mine is yamaha PSR-295 (€250). Its got sh1t loads of effects (dog barking is my favourite :) ) and is touch sensitive, but the keys don't have hammer action and are made of flimsy plastic. However, it does the job (a little light gigging, making vocal harmoines and portable practice).

You'd have to buy a good sustain pedal separately with the keyboard aswell, if you want one, of course. :)
