Seen as a lot of people here seem to be using K/Ubuntu, I thought I'd post this up..

Automatix is a small graphical frontend which updates your apt sources for you and then downloads, installs and configures pretty much everything you need to make Ubuntu multimedia-ready (from mplayer to dvd rippers to nvidia drivers).

The program is fairly small in itself and self explanitory once you get it going. Just scroll through this page until you come to the first few lines of code in the first post. Copy to a console and away you go.

It's deigined for Ubuntu (Gnome) but I'm using it on Kubnutu (KDE) myself and it hasn't broken anyway.

There's some warning that this is illegal to do in the land of the free (USA); think thats probably to do with the hacked dvd playback & ripping, not sure.
