To Xbox or not to Xbox

Ladies and gents, I'm considering buying an Xbox 360. I've been a loyal Playstation 2 user for six years, and I definitely intend to buy a Playstation 3 (whenever its surfaces).

But I'm very eager to sample next-gen gaming, so I'm thinking about buying a 360. Should I? Is it worth it?

If your not scraping to get money, do get it, Im ps2 down to the core, and will definitly get the PS3 but for now I think the xbox is brilliant, its not hugely expensive if you have a job, and if you've got the know how to connect it to the pc and 5.1 reciever makes it that much better and maybe even a high def tv. Although if you dont intend to connect to xbox live it takes alot away from it!
In all I'm perfectly happy with mine, and ive had no problems with it crashing or anything!

I'm living in a non-broadband area at the mo, but hope to move to Dublin *IF* I go back to uni in September.

I need more people to convince me why!

Pick up an xbox(xbox1) for less then 150€ in smyths mate, i went from a sony fanboy (i had a ps2 for a long time and loved it) and when i got my xbox i never looked back! xbox1 that is, i have a 360 too but not enough decent game yet tbh! but yeah, xbox turned me away from my beloved sony, which was a big thing for me, cause i was a HUGE ps2 fanboy "omg splinter cell IS coming out on ps2 yes, haha n0ob xbox owners" :D

if you still wanna go straight for 360, wait, till at least the end of march. when some great titles are out (ghosts3, fight night)

If there's games you want on the 360, go for it. Otherwise wait a while, or get an original Xbox.
I don't have a 360, and I won't be getting one until the console takes a price drop, and there's some decent games out for it. At the moment, I'm actually mostly playing my PS2 and DS.

I got one last Thursday night. Got COD 2 and Perfect Dark so far. PD isn't great but Call Of Duty is class.

I didn't get a chance to play multiplayer online yet but the Xbox marketplace for downloading demos etc. is a great idea.

The games aren't out yet but they'll come and I can't see their being a price drop in the near future so I think you should go for it.

I'm a PS2 fan and I got an xbox last year, never changed my view, still like the ps2 more, the black and white buttons on the xbox were ****e, at least now they've just gone for the four on top!

i went from games like mgs2, red faction, timesplitters, and final fantasy, to halo, splinter cell, etc.... and i never looked back, i actually think the xbox pad is better then ps2! i was disappointed wehn the 360 pad had only shoulder buttons.. they should have ADDED should buttons, and KEPT the black/white, instead of just moving them.

Are you saying youve got the 360 connected up to your pc speakers? how've you done that?

I'd recommend it if and only if you had a broadband connection. Offline, the PS2 has better games at the moment. But with Xbox Live and Live Arcade especially, aswell as the other extra features the 360 is well worth the money.

No its hooked up to a 5.1 reciever like an amp, through an optical cable, and you need the advanced scart or the vga cable for an optical output!

To the guy who's thinking of getting one: Not being on live will take alot out of it, the games wont last as long unless your planning on buying them all, wait till more games come out or till you move to a broadband area!!

The composite/hd cable that comes with both core and premium xbox 360's, has optical output, not just rgb scart cables, and vga.

The one I got with the core system didnt have an optical output, but ur right the one you get with the premium system does hav an optical output!

Don't bother. The only games that I played on the xbox that were exclusives were panzer dragoon orta, strangers wrath, Outrun2 and ninja gaiden. The only other games I play on it are multiformat because they are usually marginally better on the xbox. I really wouldn't advise an xbox 360 at the moment. There really aren't any standout games available for it at the moment. Wait for the first must have or at least a price drop. The fact that you don't have broadband should really discourage you since the fantastic xbox live service is really all that recommends a 360.

Doesnt really make sense to tell the guy to buy the xbox1 now and wait till
more games come out then buy the second one
most of the great games are backwards compatible and are dirt cheap in
    places like gamestop
Playing ninja gaiden or halo 2 with improved graphics on a high def tv would b
worth getting the 360 for alone if you ask me
the thing costs as much as a high end graphics card for a pc which people
    change every 18 months

If Ninja Gaiden was emulated correctly yes...........

And not forgetting a gold star for their map "issues" in Halo 2.....

I wouldn't buy one right now. A price drop is inevitable by the end of the year, and the library will be a lot more mature by then.

That said, I'm pretty hesitant on 360 overall right now. For me, Xbox's biggest advantage was superior versions of multiplatform games. Almost always I'd buy the Xbox version of these games. Xbox also would get some "technical exclusives" - games that were exclusive simply because it was the only console platform that could handle them. But with this coming generation, that advantage is lost. PS3 will likely get the better versions, and there'll be no such thing as "technical exclusives", really.

I dunno, I think it's just fairly easy for me to wait for Halo3 before investing in it..and it'll be a lot cheaper investment by that time. I understand, though, whilst Sony and Nintendo stay mum on their systems, 360 looks all the more attractive since it's the only next-gen offering out there right now, but that'll change very soon, and I know I'd be kicking myself if I dropped €400++ on a 360 right now.
