Can an employment contract have its terms altered by the employer without the consent of the employee?

I would have to assume a notice period would apply, what would a reasonable period be?

I guess you signed your original contract? any new contract would also have to be signed by you I presume?

Did you read the original carefully? It could be possible if the original contract you signed gave the employer some discretion is making changes to the terms without your signature.

Nothing about changes what so ever. When I changed positions I was given a suplemental contract to sign.

Always negotiate a contract in a civil and dignified manner without getting cocky and bullyish, my current job was taken over by a new company (transfer of undertakings) and they came to me with a contract and said that it was just a standard contract(yeah right). any contract you sign you are legally bound to even if it is written on a peice of bog roll, anyway I negotiated the contract saying i wanted it ammended to state that my years of service will be taken into account and that my wage reveiw will be on the anniversary of my start date with the prevoius company instead of a year from starting with the new company, and that any holidays i had would be transfered over.
And if they change your contract they have to get you to sign it, if you don't like what it says then you have to negotiate, i did not sign my contract till 2 1/2 months from when i first started, if I had not signed it within 3 months then the company would be in deep ka-ka with the department of trade and employement.
Exercise your rights and check out this website http://www.entemp.ie
And if you know anyone that works in LAW get them to give it the once over or email the department of trade and employement and ask them for advice, see link for email addresses.
