There is a sequel in the works to the classic puppet starring fantasy film 'The Dark Crystal.

Here's a photo of Kira from the first film, now really old

Set hundreds of years after the events of the first movie when the world has once again fallen into darkness, Power of the Dark Crystal follows the adventures of a mysterious girl made of fire who, together with a Gelfling outcast, steals a shard of the legendary Crystal in an attempt to reignite the dying sun that exists at the center of the planet.

Gendy Tartakovsky, of Samurai Jack and Clone Wars fame, is on board to direct.

I'm really looking forward to this one. The original was a favourite of mine as a kid and I still remember getting really wrapped up in the storyline when I was at the cinema and shouting at the characters on the screen.

So much imagination was poured into the original.. I just hope this sequel does it justice.

Jim Henson's recently did that Mirrormask film... Has anyone seen that yet? I'd heard it's not supposed to be that great.

Just bought Dark Crystal on DVD recently because I loved it when I was younger. A sequel would be fantastic and I hope this comes about.

That alone makes me excited, Gendy paid more respect to the original star wars trilogy with the clone wars series then any of Lucas's remasterings or prequels.

Definitely. And he set up the character of General Grevious so well too... only to have Lucas take the character and wipe his arse with it.

IF it wasnt for Clone Wars series, i wouldnt have cared less about episode 3...but after the first appearance of Grevious, god it was Vader all over again...

But back to the original topic. Have they said how they are doing this film? CGI? puppets?

I believe it will be mostly puppets with CGI backgrounds.

I'm guessing the girl made of fire will be CGI.. .either that or the puppeteers will be wearing lots of asbestos.
