Anyone know if NTL's broadband starter package is good enough for Xbox Live?

Looking at NTL's Broadband Starter - says it's suitable for network gaming, but when I rang them the guy says only the Broadband and Broadband plus packages can be used for that...

    Any NTL broadbanders out there?

You should be ok. You will still experience ping problems every now and then. I'm on the 3 meg line and I get problems with Xbox online the odd time. Check out the broadband board here and see if there are many complaints about game ping
problems using NTL starter. But off the top of my head, it should be ok.

    What is ping??

Pings are used to measure the time delay or 'Latency' between which packets or data are sent between your computer and the server that you are connected to. Do it using the "Ping" tool from the command line, The units are in milliseconds. So a ping of 200 means 200 milliseconds delay. The higher the latency, the higher the time delay and thus the longer it takes for the packets of data to be sent between you and the server. Higher delays are bad for online gaming.
YOu can measure it by opening the command line and typing: ping <address of server>

    For example:
    ping boards.ie
It will give a result like:
    64 bytes from boards.ie (82.195.136.250): icmp_seq=1 ttl=50 time=26.9 ms
    64 bytes from boards.ie (82.195.136.250): icmp_seq=2 ttl=50 time=45.9 ms
    64 bytes from boards.ie (82.195.136.250): icmp_seq=3 ttl=50 time=26.0 ms
    64 bytes from boards.ie (82.195.136.250): icmp_seq=4 ttl=50 time=24.6 ms
You can just use the ip address of the server as well. If you know the address of the gaming server that you use, it is quick way to test. There are better ways to do it if you more exact figures
