20 Players left, top 15 all get a ticket. I have AKs and make it 5k out of my stack of 21k (blinds 1k 2k). The bb calls. The flop is J 2 3 rainbow. He goes all in for 9k. I think there is a good chance he is bluffing. Call or fold?

If good chance of bluffing then call. If good chance of pair then fold.

    Just push preflop.

Umm tough call as going for the hand as winning the hand would increase you stack nicely but you only need to get into the top 15, I don't think I would call..

What was you position in terms of chips ?

    other stack sizes needed

Need other stack sizes and your position in chips with regards the other players.

Also has he called many raises from his bb trying to protect it in previous hands and if so, what was the hands he went with. Bit more info on player in question would be nice.

Looks like you are the subject of a Stop 'n Go.

    Need other stack sizes info.

15k would be a little over average for my table, no idea about the other 2 tables. I think pushing preflop would be pretty silly given the penalty for busting out, most of the players at this table would call all in with any pair.

The guy is young and overaggressive. I think theres at least a 40% chance, maybe higher, that he is bluffing based on hands hes played before. He could well have a low pair though.

    Fold

Why the raise pre-flop, and not a push? Are you intending to get away from the hand pre-flop if you're raised? (I'm thinking you didn't actually have the AK).

Edit: just saw your other post.

Stacks are a little small to raise and get away if he pushes in any case. You make it 5, he pushes for 15, you are going to call.
You are never subjected to a stop n go if you push
You might get called by AQ/AJ if you push.
If he has a pair, he probably pushes himself very often.

    Meh, just a thought.

I'd fold - looks like he has 88/77 or something similar..

However if you are sure he is bluffing 40% of the time it is a call.

You'd want to be definite with your read, he probably would have pushed preflop with AQ which is the hand you'd like to be able to put him on. I've been subjected to this exact situation in cash games by shortstacks after I've raised in position with AK and more often than not, they've hit a gammy part of the flop with low suited connectors. This is slightly different but a similar enough premise.

No one had reraised me all night so i wasnt too concerned with that. If a player pushed all in preflop I probably would of folded (I would of called this player though).

I hear so much rubbish about not going broke in tournaments, but this seemed like a time where protecting my stack was FAR more important than winning the hand. If I fold I leave myself with a comfortable stack and Im by far the best player at the table, I think its very unlikely I dont finish in the top 15. If I call and lose im going to need to get lucky, and what swung it for me in the end was that if he was bluffing he will still have 2 live cards.

He was kind enough to show me Q7s!

Clear fold given that 15K as you said would be above average on your table.
Also as you said you self a push is silly as if you get called your behind.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re getting stop& goed or he got a bit of the flop or he is on a bluff. Fact remains that you cant afford to call and find out which it is.

Norwich Fan: Rob how can u even consider calling this

    answer
I think there is a good chance he is bluffing

If you think your opponent is bluffing you call them, they will not try pull a move on you again any time soon.

I agree. Did you leave out the stack sizes from the original post on purpose?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭Norwich Fan Rob

but it is a satelite, and theres no way u can call

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 345 ✭✭Iceman78

would not be calling this in satellite unless i was short stack. any other game and all in straight off.

No call and 5K raise was probably a bit rich for slick imho.

I know I was that soldier, last week I was sitting pretty in 4th well above average stack, 10 to qualify 18 left...and then it started with trying to defend my blinds, then trying to give an annoying little fish a slap and before the blood drained from my head I was out on the bubble :(

There you are now , its been three weeks since my last confession...

    I'd have folded this too.
