APPARENTLY the old owner of the stardust ( nighclub that has been discussed over the past few days due to the horrific events ) will be opening a pub tomorrow night right beside the location of the stardust nightclub, he will also be calling it the stardust pub.

The nightclub had opened on valentines day , he is now opening his new pub and naming it the same name as the nightclub on valentines day ?!.

I think thats horrific if its true

Eh why is it horrific? There are plenty of pubs named after horrific events in history. Hopefully the pub will be like a museum to the disaster, like a tribute to those who died or something. BTW, ever heard of "The Dead Man's Inn"?

Horrific is a slight overreaction, although I do think that's somewhat disrespectful of him.

Fancy a pint in Biddy O'Holocaust's?

EDIT: Damn it, that's a GREAT name for a pub...

Okay maybe horrific is been a bit strong, but i thought it was in very bad taste given the time and media attention at the moment. however i have been now corrected with the name

Well. just my opinion, as someone who grew up in the area.........
I think his timing sucks big time! :(

He's opening it on the 25 year anniversary or something. Bad taste.

No, but I'm sure there is a pub somewhere in the world called "Bürgerbräu Keller".

It would be in bad taste considering its next door to where it was, but its not called that so its all good. Though if i were him i wouldnt have picked that date.

It can't be any worse than calling a chain of restaurants Mao. After the Chinese mass-murderer of the same name. Anyway this is all speculation and sounds like a load of sh!te to me.

Sounds a bit cock and bull to me. I mean, what businessman in his right mind would do something like that? The locals would go mental and never set foot in the place, and that's hardly good news for a pub is it?

    Oh it's true..

It's called the Silver Swan, which I believe was the name of the pub that used to be next to the Star Dust.

Pretty bad taste if you ask me... especially considering the date.

It is a very big area and really does need more pubs... so I'm sure this place really will do business. Skellys Lounge which was in there previously always did pretty well for itself.

in fairness its bad taste regardeless of wat he calls it, twas all over the radio tonight, doubt there will be many at it anyway, he could have at least waited a week or 2. its kind of rubing it in the face of the victims families, its been established that there was no definate cause but it was more than likely deliberate, he should have waited rather than pissing on their memories which is what he is doing by opening this place so close to the date of the original incident

just saw this msg now it is actually true tho!! any ppl from artane around that could lend a thought to the discussion

I think it is all an over -reaction driven by the number of people who died. If there had only been one or two then nobody would question it. After all it was twenty five years ago . It is just a collective outburst.

Its a real tragedy what happened in Strdust. Thankfully, we all benefit from safety regs brought in as a result.

Opening a new pub now is all about the promotional benefit they will get from media exposure and us on the Boards!

Still hopefully lessons have been learned and some comfort has been got by the families over the years, though I think questions still must be answered. I'd like to see the answers before anyone connected are allowed to open up again irrelevant of the strict safety laws now in force.

Anyway thoughts with the survivors and the victims families.

This guy, when told by the Fire officer in the sixties to add another fire exit to a pub he owned, he just knocked a hole in the wall.
Butterly also owned another pub, the Silver Swan on George’s Quay in Dublin, during the 1960s. Shortly after buying the pub, he opened a disco behind it called The Two Ages.

In his autobiography, Butterly admitted the nightclub was developed without any planning permission. Furthermore, the fire authorities later refused him permission to retain the club unless he installed another fire escape. Butterly’s response was to knock a hole in the wall.

The Silver Swan is the name of the pub. It is also to have the old sinage it had at the time of the Stardust fire.

I believe that it was a custom for those going to the Stardust that they would go to the Silver Swan pub before the nightclub started.

    That's correct.

I'd forgotten it was the pub that was next to his other club though.. not the Stardust.
