I was looking for a quote from Withnail & I recently online, and found on many of the sites, that the character of "I" is often listed as "Peter Marwood"
Even Wikipedia wasnt able to give me a satisfactory reason as to why...
It says "I" is named just once in passing in the film as Marwood.

    But I cant find where....

    anybody got any theories???

Once again, the IMDB gives us the goods
Although credited on screen only as "...and I", 'Paul McGann' 's character is named as "Marwood" in the script. It was widely believed that the character's first name is Peter, and this is in fact confirmed in the uncut version of the film, as Withnail refers to I/Marwood as Peter during the discussion about acting work at Monty's house.

Those lucky Americans have the Criterion Collection edition of the DVD, which includes the uncut version of the film. I don't think the UK version has any deleted scenes.

The Criterion DVD is identical to the UK release. There was a US version released (see the "alternate versions" section of the IMDB site) but the Criterion restores the UK one. Calling it uncut is a bit of marketing on their part (particularly on the UK Anchor Bay one) since they are in fact simply receiving the film in a non Americanised fashion.
