gmail problem

    anyone having trouble downloading their gmail messages to thunderbird or other mail client. i can login no problem using gmail.com but wont download to thunderbird. it was downloading fine yesterday i havnt touched any settings and cant figure it out. it keeps asking for my password i enter it then the attatched message comes up. next it asks for a new password. why would it ask for a new one when it works perfectly through gmail.com. im very confused. maybe this happened to someone else and can help me if not ur thoughts are greatly appreciated.
