Kit car confusion

Whats on the paper work for a kit car.

If its a VW based kit like the 356 or Ferrari that uses the chassis =no vrt
Or a Ford/Rover based Cobra or lotas7 kit which uses a new chassis and must be vrt'ed and reg'ed as new.

Like in the case of a not so bright Guard driving behind a Porsche kit looks like Porsche says Porsche on the back but when he/she runs the reg gets Beatle on the file and tax disc and also now a convertible.

I know if you change the colour you tell the VRO but the colour the roof the body the badging and maybe the engine.

(I know about the safety test so not that bit):)

    Thanks

generally it would state the make and model of the car where the chassis originally belonged to, but I have seem some exceptions.

In the case of VW Beetle kit cars, generally yes, the reg would mention it's a VW Beetle. However, when you bring one in, the VRO would generally run it through their Kit car specialist. They have a special person that deals with kit cars and each car will be viewed on its own. However, if the paperwork and chassis is from a 30+ year old car, there is generally not much they can do other than allow it as a Classic!

So even though it says Porsche on the back of the kit car (in case of a 356 conversion) but the chassis is off a VW Beetle, the paperwork would still mention VW Beetle ... I'm not sure how they deal with car that have been chopped or otherwise modified. I presume, if this was done on an Irish car, the owner is supposed to have informed the Vehicle Registration department of any changes!

    Thanks Paul.
Was wondering as about 10 years ago I had a 75 Opal Kadett coupe and fitted ford lights and some other mods and was stopped regularly and in some cases on showing my paper work at the Garda station still caused a lot of confusion as even pre NCT was a rare car.
They thought it was an Aussie or US Ford mostly on a dodgy Opal Kadet plates.:)
