I don't think you can do better than betfair.
Particularly on Irish racing and if you are trying to back something out of the top 3 in the market you will get much better value. For instance I got 29/1 about the railway man yesterday and I was able to cover my bet by laying him at 1/3 before the last :) I can't imagine it was laid at anything more than 16's on course.
Betdaq works well too of course, most of the on course bookies use it now so in effect by betting with them you are paying a premium for access to their internet connection.

PP is much improved since you can link online and phone (and poker) accounts. You will need them for your multiples etc.
The tote are available online now, I haven't used it yet. Must give it a spin soon you can do multiple bets there too.

I use Betdaq.Good for backing (good odds)but not great for laying.

small wagers and casual gamblor I'd suggest stick with PaddyPower, generally decent odds and quick reliable service etc. plus their cheque payment is prompt and free (i think).

I personally use Paddys and Betfair, whichever suits my needs best, and having tried most other bookies to get their free offers am happy with the pair...

I'm thinking of maybe setting up a tote account to do placepots and jackpots etc... anyone any experience of this for irish users?

I have a irish tote account and they give you 25 euro free when you deposit 100 euro into your new account. Then you are given your tote card which you can use on the touch screen totes or even use them at the counter by telling them your pin number. You can also place bets via phone, free phone number which you enter your own bets e.g type in your account no./pin then/meeting no./race no./what type of bet/how much on bet/horse no/then verify the bet or you can use the normal way of ringing up tote and telling the person on the phone your account details and bets but thats no free phone. You can only place jackpots placepots at the course you can not place them bets on the phone, which i think they should. 1800238669 is the number if you want to contact them.I hope that was some help to you chump. Its worth doing i think.

I find betfair particularly handy when betting on a horse to place only. I backed a horse yesterday that was 25/1 with Paddy Power, but was able to back it at 9.6 to place (around 17/2) with betfair.
