    Attention Martial artists!!!!

For anyone who might be interested, there is now a Wushu club in UCC. It is currently adjoined to the current UCC Fu Lung Chuan Kung Fu club (www.ucc.ie/kungfu) but starting october, it will be it's own seperate club.
    - The instructor is Frankie Liu, a two-time National Champion of China, and as that suggests, he's pretty damn good.
There are currently about ten regulars to the training but non-students can also come along too (public must pay €5, but it's quite easy to sneak in;) )

    Training times are as follows:

    Monday - 19:00 - 21:00 Mardyke Arena (Hospitality suite)
    Wednesday - 19:30 - 21:00 Mardyke Arena (hall 3)
    Friday - 19:30 - 21:00 Mardyke arena (Hospitality suite)

    What is Wushu?

Wushu is literally "Martial art", where as "Kung Fu" roughly means "hard work". Wushu is the national sport of China and is a highly fluid, acrobatic style which is scientific, yet stays true to kung fu tradition.
The most well-known wushu player is Jet Li, who was a member of the Beijing Wushu team.
There are many different styles that can be learned, and Frankie is trained in Tai Chi boxing, Tong Bei, Shaolin boxing to name but a few.

    For more info visit: www.iwuf.org
    www.beijingwushuteam.com

Come along and have some fun...or die!

The Fu Lung Chuan club is running nicely now with regular training (unfortunately directly after Wushu). We even have a seminar on the 25th of Feb coming up so if anyone would like to come along for a good 5 hours of training and philosophy, please do.
I don't have all the schedule for the day off-hand but email kungfu@ucc.ie for more on the seminar or anything club related.
Everyone is welcome and there'll be a relaxing beverage (or five) in the Franciscan Well afterwards. :)

yeah heard about the seminar, good stuff, you'll have some sore knuckles after 5 hours of that:D

What do you mean by philosophy?

Basically, Mick and/or Damien are going to spend some time explaining the Philosophy behind Fu Lung Chuan as part of the seminar, as a way of integrating the students more i suppose and also attract beginners for next year. There are posters around the campus, so I would expect at least a few new faces there.
As well as this, it will be the first time that the new UCC kung fuers will get to mingle with the Blarney Street crowd. (Fu Lung Chuan's home, as far as I know not onpen to beginners, and definintely not advisable for beginners!! )
