Installing Sky+ Myself

    Folks,

I was going to order Sky+ and multiroom from Sky as I already have a full sub and its only an extra 15 bucks a month.

However on reflection I don't believe I really need multiroom and do not want the hassle of an installer. I setup my own motorised dish system using a SuperMount motor and 1.2M Channel Master no problem. So I do not believe I will have any trouble putting a quad LNB on my minidish and buying a Sky+ digibox of fleabay.

I intend to use a Freesat card I bought in the old standard digibox and use my existing sub card in the new Sky+ digibox with a quick call to Sky to marry my sub card to the new box.

I know some members on this board have considerable knowledge of sky installations so I would be most grateful for any comments regarding this and let me know if there are any "gotchas" or a better way of doing it !

Many thanks and kind regards, baud.

No that sounds fine. Just make sure to use good grade satellite cable (CT100 or CT125).
The Quad LNBs don't need tape on connectors there is a snap cover.

    Thanks Watty,

To ask the question, if I go ahead with the Sky install what type of digibox will I end up with. Will it be the 160 Gig version for sure ? Or is it possible I will get stung with a box with a little hard drive..

In the same vein, if I wanted to buy one of fleabay what would be the recomended make/model....

    many thanks !

    baud.

I think the 160G is extra and not very reliable. You get the 80G as standard.

Non-Sky direct satellite PVRs are now offering 450G! Of course no extended EPG (only now/next) and only Sky free channels. But DVD writing built in option as is Ethernet, Firewire, USB2 and even Wifi depending on make and model.
