    Hi,

I recently did a website for someone and they gave me a cheque for €500 which only the named person (me) can lodge. I would of prefered cash in the first place but this was not possible this time. How can i legitimately put this money into my account and pay tax on it?

Of course i would prefer to have the 500 all to myself but i dont want to get in trouble in the future with the tax man.

    Thanks for any help

€500 is nothing. I have put cheques in for more and never have the tax man after me.

The account i am putting it in to is just a current account but the cheque is from a company. The company said they need my RSI number for their books.

    Does this sound right ?

Having done nixers in the past, being asked for my RSI number is a first. Normally I am asked to invoice them saying x,y and z with my name and address.

I simply quote what I did and the exact money I was given - no VAT, no nothing. I have been paid in cash and cheque form all without a problem. But personally I would be wary of any company/person I was doing it for that asked for my RSI number - just my $0.02

I've done nixers for years. Some jobs have been for €1100+ and I've never paid tax on them. I wouldn't be too worried about it. They just don't check. As for your RSI number. I've never heard of that. Like Ph3n0m said, an invoice for XYZ is all I've ever been asked for.
