Absolutely amazing!! Yeah I think this will actually be a better series than the last one (which was great of course). I mean they had had one or two less explosions of course, but the storyline and plot seem to be far more engaging this time. I mean you could smell the intrigue and the backroom shenanigans in the first hour!
Really liked the way Jack got back into the routine! The next hour or two will be very interesting with Jack right in the middle of a terrorist attack at the airport.
The terrorists? Chechen Im guessing. They seem Asian anyways, and that Spencer guy doesnt seem all that legit.
Very interesting with Logans wife, seems to be a great plot developing there.
And wow assasinating Prez Palmer and Michelle.. I read the Sky One report before I watched it, and annoyingly it revealed the assasination of Plamer (!  ) but didnt read on, and so very surprised with Michelle being killed.

Yeah, a pretty "explosive" start alright, pardon the pun! :D Shame to see
    Michelle being killed off
    . :(

Though, once again the writers seem to be a bit lazy in places and are just rehashing characters we've seen in previous series. For example, Logan's wife, the First Lady, definitely seems to be a bit of a rehash of Erin Driscoll's daughter from the last series. She's annoying the f**k out of me already. And this Darren kid, I have a feeling might end up turning into another bit of a Kim from series 2 and Jack has to keep rescuing him. Though I hope not. Hope he's written out of the series early on so Jack can concentrate on the serious stuff and not have to go running around trying to rescue another annoying teenager! :D

And yet another mole! I suppose at least this time it's not
    inside CTU
    but within
the President's inner circle of advisors
. That could make things quite interesting. ;)

    Loved Chloe's line when
Jack was trying to get the jacket and gear off the FBI agent in the underground car park
. "Don't worry, he's really good at this!" And the way she said it, all nonchalantly as if it was no big deal. Great bit! :D

So far, pretty good start to the season. Better than last year's anyway. Hopefully it'll maintain this momentum right through the rest of Day 5!

Are they spoilers of the next couple of hours??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,265 ✭✭✭aidan_dunne

No, they're spoilers for tonight's opening two episodes. The reason I put the spoilers tags in for the most important bits I mentioned is because it's repeated on Sky One tomorrow night and I don't want to spoil it for anyone who missed it tonight and is planning on watching it tomorrow night instead.

I know, probably a bit unnecessary but I don't want anyone coming back to me and saying, "Ah, ya ba$tard, I was going to watch the repeat and now you just ruined it for me!" :D

I should do that for my last sentence. How do you put on spoiler tags around them?

Really enjoyed the first episodes, but was disgusted cos I accidentally read about Palmer in the Sunday World magazine. Is it really necessary for them to print details like that?

Yeah, they're such idiots! Same happened to me on entertainment.ie. Just have to not read anything coming up to a 24 episode! anything at all! And no Im not taking this too seriously, I feel totally fine, I dont need my meds.

[*spoiler] [*/spoiler] are the tags you use (minus the *. I had to put that in there so it would show up)

    So, for example:

[*spoiler] whatever text you want to black out, you place in here [/*spoiler]

    Once again, without the *

Do we need to cover spoilers from episodes that have already aired on TV? I think if anyone's watching the repeat, they'll have enough sense to steer clear of these kinds of threads.

Aidan - gotta agree, definitely sad to see Michelle go, but it was fairly obvious from the fact that she was "Special Guest Star" while Tony was back in the main credits that only one of them was gonna be sticking around for this season.

And god, another annoying teenager who gets in the way and screws everything up. After Kim, Kyle, Maya, Behrooz and probably more that I've blocked from my mind, it gets old. Hell, we're two hours in and he's already ensured that, after Jack sent him and his mom to CTU (which gives them two witnesses who saw Jack 15 miles outside of LA at 7AM and clear his name) they're probably never going to get there since he's now trapped in the airport. Idiot.

Things are definitely looking up for this season - the main cast is more established than last year (when Jack and Chloe were basically the only familiar characters we started the season with) and since they've killed off most of the characters from the earlier seasons by now, they won't be reduced to having to drag back in a load of ex-regulars who had already left the show.

Just "checking six", as Jack Bauer might say. In other words, just covering my arse and making sure I'm not going to be blamed for spoiling it for anyone! :D Probably completely unnecessary, as you say, but I'm not taking any chances! :D

Well, it was inevitable in a way, wasn't it? I said it during season 3 that one or both of them were bound to end up biting the dust (at the time, I thought it would be Michelle and the whole virus thing). It didn't happen then but it has now. And why did I think it was inevitable? Because, looking back through the previous series', relationships and marriages never seem to work out in '24' and somebody usually ends up dying. So it was bound to happen eventually. Guess the writers don't believe in anyone in the '24' world being left alone to live with their wife and kids and live happily ever after, eh? ;)

Yes, very annoying. As I said, the sooner he's written out of the series/killed off/ f**k's off back home with his mother/whatever, the better!

Tonight, Sky One, 10 o' clock (I think but check listings just to be safe).

See, I told you somebody was bound to come on here wanting to know when it was reapeated so I was right to spoiler tag my posts after all, wasn't I? Eh? Eh? See, I told ya, didn't I? Now who's laughing, eh? Eh? ;):D

Great first two hours alright. I was a bit apathetic before it started but I was sucked right in once it started.

They do seem to be rehashing quite a few characters all right. It seemed to be a case of
"Ok, we need a civilian for Jack to save. Someone he has an emotional investment in. I know, a teenager"

At least there won't be any mountain lions in the airport.

Does anybody else find the script in 24 to be really wooden? Especially in the CTU scenes. It doesn’t detract too much but I thought it was quite noticeable last night.

The CTU bits can definitely be a bit off at times, but I usually write that off to the fact that they're in a really weird environment where they're meant to be all cold and professional about the fact that the woman they worked with for years just got blown the hell up in a car bomb. And generally speaking, the good acting makes up for the slightly wooden dialogue - Audrey's lines weren't anything special last night, but Kim Raver acted the hell out of them, so it worked.

have to say that i quite enjoyed the first episode, but the second one wasn't the best.
did anyone else start laughing when logan's wife was getting her hair done up and she suddenly says "i look like a wedding cake" and dunk her head in the water. so random that it was hilarious!
there was no point for jack to bring that kid along with him. he said that he didn't want the kid to call the cops on him. so he hijacks a helicopter, shoots up a bunch of guys an infiltrates a crime-scene. good move:rolleyes:

looking forward to see how the hostage thing plays out. i reckon they might begin to borrow heavily from Die Hard 2:D

Yeah I thought the first two episodes where very good. Far better the last season which had to have the most annoying characters ever seen on 24.

I.e. The Muslim family, Chloe and Edgar (both of whom don't seem as annoying but remain that tiny bit annoying).

It a pity Chloe only knows how to pull her face in one emotion (That of a teenage girl being told what to do by her parents) :(

But it still doesn't stand up well to the orginal 3 series.

None of the characters are as good as they where back then, even when they had the impossible role of writing KIM back into the 3rd Day by letting her joint CTU and then trying to find away to get her out of her suit and into something more comfortable.

The insider was totally obivous from the get go, and I think but could be wrong but could the guy chloe was with at the beginning of the first episode be an insider?????????

The First Lady however may give Sherry a run for her money as the Best first lady of series so far.

re Nachos' spoiler: it was setting her up to be a mad woman, I though it was effective since the president was worried what she might say etc.

The last series also annoied me by the way it was so totally pro-American, which I expect but didn't find in the first 3 series as much.

Also the 4 day continued to try and find ways to rewrite in ex-24 characters, Tony, Michelle and President Palmer.

And back to the 5day. mmmmmm.

Ok back on the 1st day. Jack Bauer has to assinate the President to be. Senitor Palmer. And now on day 5 we are expected to beleive that CTU now believes that
    Jack killed President Palmer
    . I don't think so.

    RANT OVER.

It a pity Chloe only knows how to pull her face in one emotion

Most of your rant I totally agree with, but not this part. The look of total and utter horror on her face when Edgar told her about Michelle being blown up by a car bomb just as she was about to get into her own car was class. And to be fair, she's meant to be sociopathic, so I totally buy her not having a huge emotional range. Oh, and:
I think but could be wrong but could the guy chloe was with at the beginning of the first episode be an insider?????????

OK, not to be cruel, since Mary Lynn Rajksub (Chloe) looked better this season than she ever has before, but even still, that guy was waaaaay out of her league. They're either trying to make Chloe look better by suggesting she can pull really hot guys, or he's a mole who's using her. And frankly, I'm guessing the latter.

infact he is on the same level of tech experience as Chloe only that he knows a tad bit more, which will be seen later on as the hours progress.

I caught the repeat on Sky 1 and was very impressed. Roll on Sunday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,263 ✭✭✭yom 1

I never got into 24 before but a few mates were telling me to give it a try this season. I think I have just found my new sunday night program. It was very good, nice and fast paced - hopefully it will keep it up for the series. Just a quick qt - did I hear it right at the end of it on sunday, that there is another 2 episodes this sunday starting from 9 again?
